<quoted text>let me clear up a whole lot of myths here, the health care in prison is near non-existan, takes two to three weeks to see a doctor on any aliment, longer for a dentist, no cavity repair, only pulling of teeth, but by the time, you see the dentist, it is all abcessed, and infected and can't be pulled untill the infection is controlled. no pain meds, just tylanol. there is no cable tv anywhere in califorina prison system. it is a cable antennea that picks up local stations only, you dont get a tv in your cell unless someone buys one for you, or you can afford to buy one, and if you are lucky enough to have a pay job, pay is somewhere between .11 and .16 cents an hour, so tv's aren't all that prevelent, now about those three meals a day, yes you get three, good luck getting them down, the food is the worst anywhere, a meal costs the state for each prisoner $1.22 per meal lets see you eat on that and even fill you up. most inmates but raman soups and make things from those because the food is so bad, most of the inmates that you hear "commit crime to go back in" are instituanalized to the point that society is overwhelming to them because nobody is telling them when to eat when to dress when to work, ect, the biggest problem in prison is that there is no rehabilitation. If you put a broken tv in your garage for 5-10 years, go and plug it back in without somebody doing something to it, its still broken, what is it that you expect from these prisoners to do when most cant read, have no job skills, are not hired because of stereotyping, and their gate money ($200.00) runs out and they are hungry again, they recommit half the time to just survive. would you have one of your family treated this way? most families have a reletive in the prison system now and treatment is slightly above human diginity, You may say that they don't deserve any better, but the men and women that are paroling will be living near you and I, and if we don't do something to give those a second chance that want one, they will eventually recommit, and cost you and I more money in our overcrowded prison system. I might also suggest that most of us have done something in our lives that could very easily bring us to prison, and wouldn't that change your opinion of the treatment of human beings, albiet broken ones, but still human beings and bare minimum medical treatment
All those poor poor murderers and pedophiles and criminals, life is sooooo tough behind bars----

spare me dude, sounds like you were there and are trying to be some kinda of tweeker criminal advocate or something----if this was a another country most of these scumbags would have already been long executed. Exspecially the illegals.

<quoted text>who are these families that you mention? are they not eligible for assistance? there are many orginazations that wil;l assist these people, they have to be legal citizens, but even the illegal prisoner get fed so we are helping those who have very little. as a ward of the state, we do very little for the prisoner, feeding them is very little on the grand scale enviroment is very bad, very little protection from predators, if any (stop to think about the mentally handicapped that make it to prison, and there are many) that is offered, orison guards that are corrupt, and take advantage of the weak, this is no picnic spot (yes, its not supposed to be), but we even feed our prisoners of war, its what is supposed to make us humane and concerned with human rights, not just your tax dollar. How about showing concern about the pork barrel spending your congress does pushing thru crap to help nobody but themselves, theres more tax dollars going there than feeding someone how cannot get any food for themselves, remember, at least the street person can beg from others. where does the hungry prisoner go and beg, everything is contraband, or are you suggesting that we let them starve, meaning every crime is a death sentence?
Umm there are tons of families like this-go visit a food shelter and see what kind of people come and pick up food. Its people just like you and me , most Californians are only a few paychecks away from homelessness. one good injury walking off a curb or ? and disibility doesnt think your hurt enough but you still cant work(DR, or Company wont let you) than what???? your not eligible for welfare or unemployment or disibilty--house goes into foreclosure and its all over folks that easy.

Actually there are more countries that have banned the death penalty than there are still using it. And you can see what good company we are in by still using it.

Nice try, but I'd be willing to bet that most of those struggling to make ends meet, and consequently not getting the food or healthcare they need, are the minorities. That's not racism, that's reality.

what does you financial situation have to do with any of this? I am sorry that you are living on an edge, so am I, but that doesn't mean that we become inhumane and refuse people health care, I tell you what, since you can't afford it, the next time you go into the hospital for an emergency, we'll just refuse you, after all you are refusing someone else, becaus they're locked up, it makes them less human? Yes there are many hidious criminal minds in prison, and I don't want them in society any more than you all do, however, if we are to remain an advanced society, we wil;l continue to care for our poor, our elderly and even the incarcerated, as it is the Godly thing to do,and just because you feel you are entitled to something because you didn't get put into prison, doesn't mean you really are, or that your opinion to withhold basic medical treatment from anybody in this country is right, by the way thats what the communists did, and do in other countries, do we not think we have a better system than those countries with very poor human rights records?

I am not a criminal advocate, but I believe that these are real people inside, and have value in that respect. they have families who hurt, have feelings of regret and remorse (most do, obviously not all) and still are able to be used by God to do his will, even in there. When was there a time where you visited the prisoner? how might you reconcile Matt 25 on treatment of prisoners, Maybe you are a non believer and just don't care for someone who's screwed up, because you haven't (or haven't gotten caught) but compassion is something that should extend behind bars as well. I am not talking about feeling sorry for the person who's put themself there, but to still meet basic human needs, food, clothing, and basic medical care. these (most will) people will get out at some time or another, and they can return bitter and angry about their treatment, or because of a small amount of compassion and fair treatment, decide to treat the world a little bit better by trying to start doing the right thing. What do we have to loose here? its not working so far, is it?

That's pretty ignorant to say that a skin color is "out of style". I thought this was a MULTICULTURAL society so that would include white people as well as people of other colors. Bitch.
