Whatever happened to this organization? I tried to find it using Google, and nothing came up. Does it exist in San Diego anymore? I need to know because I was adopted through that org. 40+ years ago. I contacted them sometime in the 90s, but now I can't find a phone number for them and I'm out of state now. I need to find my adoption records and I'd like to try with them first before going through the courts. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Grant, thank you! I hope it's the same organization. I will do a search on them. Were you also adopted through them? Years back when I was going to contact them, I was told I could find out non-identifying information only, like family medical history, my nationality, and reasons for my adoption. It was going to cost around $100 for the information and I didn't pursue it (I should have). Now I have my own children and I want to know these things. I did find out that no photos or letters were left for me.

I'm not sure I want to know who my birth parents are. I just want to know more about my past. A lot of questions are unanswered. I have my birth certificate, but there are areas that are "blocked out."

Grant, I wish you luck in your search as well.

Children's Home Society of California still exists. Do a google search Childrens Home Society of California. There is an office in Anaheim, CA. CHS no longer has adoptions but they still have all the records. Call the contact number and they will give you the adoptions hotline number.

CHS is a reliable agency. I'm sure there are other children's home scoiety's out there that are not so trustworthy. The one I'm talking about was started over 100 years ago by Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Townsend.

my sister was adopted from the San Diego Children's Home in the 1940s. It was directly behind San Diego High School (East). Is this the same organization?

I was afraid they might give bogus information, at least I hope they don't. I'm hoping that it will be easy getting information this day and time. I was also born at Mercy Hospital Aug. 9, 1959 in the a.m. I did contact CHS of San Diego years ago, and was told that no letters or photos were left by my biological parents. Now I want information, especially about my medical history especially for my daughter.

Hey out there,

I am a daughter of an adopted person, my father. He has always carried sadness and anger about being given up for adoption and I was hoping that maybe he has a brother or sister out there that he can meet, even though he is now in his 70s. If you have found out how to get information on the San Diego or Pedley California SHSC, please write back.

abk2690, I was curious about your post, not because of the date but because I was adopted through the CHS out of the San Diego office but born in San Francisco as well. Maybe that was done for some strange reason then. Did you ever find any more information? The San Diego office is still in existence and I have updated them on my addresses over the years in order to gain any and all medical information on my birth parents.

I, too was adopted from CHS, Mercy hospital, in 1941. Hope to obtain some medical info. Has your sister found any helpful information?
