I dont mean to condone prison escape, there needs to be some sort of acceptance on her part here, community service, ect but lets have the punishment fit the circumstances, long prison sentances don't deter crime. If you put a broken TV in your garage for 10 years, and at the end of the 10 years, bring it in and plug it in and expect it to work, you will be dissapointed. It didn't get fixed, so it still doesn't work. the only real way for a broken person to get fixed, that I know of is to consult the manufacturer!! He is the true fixer of broken people. but this woman does not need to return back into custody, It just doest not serve anybody, society, her, her family, or even justice, at this point

I am a wife and mother, I can imagine what it would feel like, buuuut, she is not the only good person locked up behind prison walls, that should not be locked up, a lot of people vote to put away the prisoner, (three strikes and your out law) which was the worse in human law, that put several prisoners in prison, until it hits home, be careful what you vote for...

Is this what I said? JUmp to irrational conclusions much? There are many people in prison that I want to stay there because they will re-offend. psyc. evaluations are nessary for violent offenders. This was a drug charge, not murder, not rape, not child molestation. this seems to be a non violent crime (at least of what we know in the ariticle). Many drug users immediatly go and re-offend, she didn't (as far as we know), and as far as lying to her husband, how mANY bad things have you done that you haven't told your husband? everybody has a past lady, just as you do. You are so quick to judge. would you, wanting to start over, spill your dirty laundry to every person that you came in contact with. NO! Get off your high horsr and this womans back, she sounds like a better person that you will ever be because she has shown character. You only seem to be one! |
|
by the way Nancy this is still america, we don't punish for what we haven't gotten caught for of prosecuted for otherwise you would be in prison for just how many things? how many times did you speed and not get caught? walk against the traffic light and not get caught, did you always give back the money when you wern't charged the right amount? what else have YOU done that you haven't been caught on. By the way you need to look up legal defination of career criminal. This woman doesn't fit it, and YOU don't get to write law the way you see fit, Get a clue |

Every so often we hear these stories of escaped convicts who are caught so many years later. But since this woman nows lives a 'privleged' life in an upscale community, she gets a pass because,'she is a good person who has changed her ways'.
I wonder if all the people saying she should be left off the hook would respond the same way if the same person was living in a trailer park instead of Del Mar. Yet because she is now in an affluent area, donates to Boy and Girl's club we should just go.. awwww and let her go. She went through the effort to change her identity and hide from authorities. She needs to answer for her escape and serve the time if that is what the court dictates. If not, then our laws mean absolutely one thing, jack squat.(Which they almost amount to now as it stands) |
|
|
Imagine the burden she has carried with her for the last 34 years. That is a sentence in itself. Who's the rat? I'm sure they've never done anything wrong in their life! NOT!
|
|
Yes I'm saying that even if she was living in a trailer park, her place of residence isn't even an issue. I'm not an affluent person, I don't care if she gave to the boys club. She is raising three children, and has made a home for her family, and has shown a true change of heart from her pervious actions,(by the way, done at the ripe old age of 19, when all good decision making is made!) and has lived by the laws of state and country ever since. The escape issue is something to be addressed. We as a socieity cannot endorse escape, but there is a punishment equitable for this after all this good time, If in fact she was such a woman of affluence, as you stated, Hell she'd be at rehab for 23 hours and given the key to the city. So that argument doesn't hold water. I don't even know this lady, but I do know what is right and wrong. Putting this woman back in prison, seperating her from her children and husband is WRONG! |
|
We'll just have to agree to disagree on this issue. She put her family in this position by changing her identity to avoid recapture. Who cares how old she was, whatever she did was enough to warrant 20 years of confinement. You say her family is being punished, I say it was her own fault for living 30+ years of a lie. |

I grew up in detroit during those times, and I know for a fact that there were many judges on the bench that were waging their own personal little war on drugs, it made the paper. they were giving out huge sentences for reletively small offences. drugs are wrong I know, but if we ever get to see what she caught 20 years for might be a very interesting topic on fair sentencing practices that were used back when, We'll most likely never know but I agree to dis agree!! Good debating with you, thanks for your educated and rational opinions, unlike some of the others expressed here! |

All can state "What if's" and Karma etc. I understand that but, Let's put it this way...what if she stayed in and was really inflenced by other people inprisoned? She may have gotten released and been worse. Had tons of kids, lived off the system for you and I to pay. My say is this, we all have our bad sides...So the kids get no dessert tonight does that make you a "B****"? I think not! She has proven to be a upstanding citizen and has worked hard in her life. You don't get a nice home and keep it up without hard work! She seems to have pride and has shown to have strong family bond. Hey their not divorced! Let her have her peace. I am sure that this has eating away at her for many years. Let her go with probation within San Diego!. Let's do the right thing here!

once again you come from a point of view with no facts, jumping to conclusions that have no merit all to defend a point of view that comes from no experience, no reasonalbe concern for others than yourself and the idea that all people who don't think as closed minded as yourself must be a career criminal. You don't defend your opinions, you cant. they come from pre-concieved moronic ideals that you must have gotten from watching too many LAW&ORDER shows. If you think that these people are so bad, why don't you volunteer at the local Prison, or county jail and reach out to these people to give them a better perspective, get to learn that these people in prison are real people too, and they too are forgiven (If they ask for forgiveness) from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, just as you may be. I just get so angry at people who judge from afar. hide behind your keyboard and do nothing to find out the truth, It must be very nice and cozy way up there in that lofty spot you seem to reside at |

Hey, I am from Michigan, and yes the Judges gave long jail terms...Don't get mad at the system! I feel for this woman, but wonder who in her circle of family and trusted friends felt the need to turn her life up-side down? I pray that they will sleep well at night now that they will be sending her back to prison.

10-20 years on a drug charge. This is not a mere possession of pot situation. There almost has to be trafficking large quantities involved or sone other charges that have not been brought to light. To all of the "let her go" people : would you feel the same way if she was selling to your children?????

See, this makes sense!! logic and common sense! You are most likely right as to the outcome, prison doesn't solve the crime problem, it usually postpones it. Glad to hear your opinion |

This woman is not anything more than an escaped felon. The only reason she has been an upstanding citizen is because if she did anything wrong her history would have caught up with her sooner. I don't know why the news casters are feeling so sorry for her. She is a convicted felon and she is a escapee and also a bad mother and wife because she lied to her family. She deserves added time for the escape.
My sympathy is with her family. |
|
|
I don't blame her for escaping. She was 19, and they threw the book at her. There are people who commit MURDER and don't get a 10-20 year sentence. I hope the rat who turned her in gets a bite on the a s s from the pit bull of karma.

You are right! Just recently there was a guy in San Diego that Hit, Ran and Kill a pedestrian! You know what he got? 6 months! |

Others on this posting session that claim that she decieved and lied to her family...How really do you know that? If her husband said that he knew, that would be aiding and bedding a criminal and he would be up for charges. Maybe the children don't know, but the Husband isn't going to claim he did. Come on get with the program. Let her off. She got a bum rape in the begining. No it did not give her the right to escape, but she was 19 and dealing drugs. How mature really was she at that age? She hasn't done anything and has shown to be a upstanding citizen. Let her be FREE.

I agree 100%. She made the decision to escape from prison and not serve the time for her crime. Granted she changed her life, but to her, she had no other choice. She knew she would end up right back in prison once caught. Hence the reason why she changed her name. It's unfortunate for her husband and her children to have to go through this but this is noone's fault but her own. |
