Plane Crash into Ice Cream Parlor Remembered

It was 35 years ago today when a jet participating in an airshow crashed into an ice cream parlor on Freeport Boulevard, killing 22 people, many of them children.

Nope, Dennis, this did happen 35 years ago; I remember it well because we were actually going to go to Farrell's that day and something came up so we couldn't go. I was 7 years old. You may be thinking of the San Diego/PSA Airlines event.

I in a car being driven by mom as the plane went across Freeport Blvd in front of us. I was 11 and will never forget the sights and sounds of that day.

I was working in a bank on Freeport Blvd. the day of the accident. I walked out onto the parking lot and could see the flames and smoke.
I remember it like it was yesterday.

Nope - 1972. I lived in Stockton, but I was planning my 12th birthday party at another Farrell's in Sacramento. Needless to say, we canceled my party and ended up having it Shakey's Pizza in Stockton. I still remember the events vividly.

Amy - this happened in 1972!! I was born and I do remember this day, it was a very tragic day here in Sacramento. Just because you were not born does not mean it didn't happen..

People, News 10 may not report the gender or ethnic background in an attempt to be politically correct, but do you really think that they would not double and triple check the date of a locally infamous tragic event???

I was 6 yrs old and watching a movie at Jerry Lewis Cinema, one block from Farrels. I remember the smoke and flames.

Hey, so y'all are right: it was 1972. But that's eerily weird in that like others I have vivid memories of seeing this on the news, but only being 3 at the time can't fathom being able to remember it at such a young age.

To compound my mistake in doing a quick web search and seeing, in fact, that yet another plane crashed in front of Farrell's in 1982. Hence the confusion. Most profuse apologies!:)

It was 1972. Some of you people are really confused, idiots or just causing trouble & grief to the people that actually survived this tragedy or lost family or friends. There were several notable air crashes in 1982. 1 of which was the airliner that went into the Potomac River, another crashed in Louisiana, 1 slid off the runway & went into Boston Harbor, another took the life of Ozzy Osbournes guitarist, one in Brazil that took numerous lives and many others. THERE WAS a plane crash in April 1982 near a Farrell's in Torrance, CA. IT DID NOT crash into the parlor. There were 3 people aboard that plane (all 3 perished). It crashed in the street & not the parlour. YOU need to get your facts straight.

Not much need for concern.

The incident involved a malfunction of a vintage high-performance aircraft at an air show 35 years ago. Executive's use model has changed, and the likelihood of such an incident now is quite low. The rest of the drive to work is the real risk.

A FRIEND OF MINE TRIED TO BOOK A PARTY FOR HER DAUGHTER THAT DAY AND FARRELS SAID THEY WERE BOOKED FRONT TO BACK. SO SHE DECIDED TO HAVE IT AT HOME. WE ALL COUNTED OUR BLESSING THEN AND TILL DO.
