Why don't we just guess that this was caused by some jerk that does not realize that passing someone on a road like this only gets you to your destination around 20 to 30 seconds earlier than if you stay in your lane and stay safe?

There have been plenty of accidents caused on these roads by impatient people that need to just take a breath and realize getting there alive is more important than being a few seconds late!

Too true, but Cash's glass seems to always be more than half empty.

Bit jumpy around conclusions as well.

I hope the deceased driver gets post mortem charges for putting the life of a child in danger. I've been nearly killed on Hwy 160 a number of times. 160 has very few places to pass. My guess is the driver was attempting to pass where passing is not allowed. My prayers are for the child and the poor woman who hit them. Johnny, Cash is more right than wrong unfortunately. An illegal murdered a father with many kids just months ago on nearby Hwy 12. If the illegal weren't here, that father would be alive today.

I drive this road all the time and most of the time it rather uneventfull. The road in and of itself is not dangerous...the numbnut drivers are the cause of death and misery. You need to stay alert and anticipate that the other idiot driver is going to do something stupid. Defensive driving is what its all about and being vigilant on 2-lane roads will save your bacon. And to all those who drive that road and insist on being a rolling road block: PULL OVER. YOU ARE required by law to pull over and let those cars behind you go. You can pick your way though the wreckage instead of being a part of it when they try to pass you over the double yellow. Drive defensively and always anticipate the other driver's bonehead move.

EVERYONE needs to slow down out there. Most people have not seen a gorey accident in person - but trust me once you do, your attitude on the road will clean up pretty quickly.

You stupid shit, this was my brother who was both insured and licenced, and a good father, who worked 60 hours a week just to pay childsupport, and only had one day off a week to pick up his daughter from her mother, who wasnt a very good person. I hope that life is more kind to you and those that you love, than you are to others.

The problem isn't the road. These are levee roads that would cost in the millions to widen in order to accomodate additional lanes. The problem is that these roads are being used as shortcuts by impatient people, and truck drivers, trying to avoid the freeway. Impatient people cause accidents! The man was obviously driving too fast and tried to pass someone where it was illegal to do so. He caused his own death, and that of his child's. My husband is a firefighter in the delta area and responds daily to accidents on these roads caused by people passing illegally.

I am sorry for your loss, but a "good father" would not put his child in danger like that. Good parents don't take chances with the life of a child. I am shocked that he would take such a chance. I am sure the comment about the mother really made her feel better about her ex killing her daughter. He was irresponsible.
