Russian car maker GAZ could start Opel output in 9 months

The Russian carmaker GAZ could start producing Opel cars within nine months if a consortium of investors taking over the German auto producer give their backing, GAZ said on Monday.

The German government and Magna International, backed by Russia's Sberbank and GAZ, reached a deal early on Saturday that will see the consortium take over Opel, part of U.S. car giant General Motors.

Deripaska is broke and what happend to Deripaska is proof that bad people in the end finally get what they deserve.
Yeah living sneaky in the 1990"s. I wonder why he hasn"t end up like Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
But than again Putin worked for Anatoly Sobchak. Anatoly Sobchak was a very corrupt man. If not even more corrupt than Boris Yeltsin was.

GM the owner, just filed for bankruptcy today. GM also just took two 30 billion dollar loans because they can't stay afloat. they pay their worker too much (about$60,000 per year plus benefits for a high school degree wrench monkey job). maybe the russians will have success because the labor market is not so expensive, but the math/mechanical intellect is higher than most.

Why does the article state that GM owns OPAL? That is is common knowledge. The new russian plant will be making OPALs.

Gaz haven't produced any new models of "Volga" car since ... um.. well it was a long time ago.
