Russia and Georgia: friends again?

Russia is set to lift visa and postal restrictions on Georgia in a further thawing of relations between the countries. Imports of fresh food could also be allowed as Russian officials consider lifting a ban on Georgian produce.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman said easing restrictions would benefit both sides.

“Normalisation of relations with Tbilisi, which the Russian side is very interested in, would meet the demands of Russians as well as Georgians,” he said.

Ha, ha, ha......

The biggest joke today !!!

The US has taken its distances with Sakhashvili since it has proven to be a little tin-pot dictator, who arrest opponents, close TV stations, censure the press and has political rivals killed!!!

Not exactly the image of democracy the US want in the Caucassus, eh??

If Sakhashvili plays up again, Russia will close its borders once more.

Georgia is nothing compared to Russia.

Sakhashvili has help the evoloution of democracy in Georgia.no one can doubt that 2008 Georgia is a country that can have a smooth transition of power from government to opposition.
he has won the elections cause he is still popular.but his popularity doesn't come so much from his governmental work , but from playing the card of nationalism and praying upon the sentiments of the Georgians over issues like abkhazia and ossetia.
he is a mini version of bush, caring the same naiveness and conservative rhetorics.his stiff anti-russianism will only hurt georgian interests.
georgia is essentially a subsidized economy by russia.it stills gets internal prices , more or less for resources and trade with in russia federation ,that lower substantially the cost in georgia.
aside from that there are more than 1 million illegal immigrants in russia, with semi-official status that russia tolerate , that are responsible for 30% of the gdp of Georgia through the incomes the sent buck home.
those who blaim russia for its peace keeping operations in south ossetia and abkhazia , they must recognize that the only reason Georgia hasn't derailed into a new civil war is because of those peacekeeping forces.
bottom line is that you can bite the hand that feed you so long.

Any attempt to lure Georgia into a military conflict would be futile.
Any russian games with breakaway regions in Georgia would be fatal for russia.

Why fatal for Russia? You lost not your lands. Russia hasn't tried to get them. Your oppinion is absurd. Say "Thanks" to your leaders - gamsik, shevi, misha and your American friends for Kosovo.

Just kiss those nations that you call breakaway regions goodbye. It's a fait accompli, done with, signed, sealed and delivered.

You'll get over it.

Georgia can't survive without Russia and no EU nor the US will help them. They come to them to screw with Russia and then when they don't need them they back off. The most absurd thing I heard was the Georgian President naming a mountain after Arnold "Gov" Swrazenneger if he would go to there for the ceremony. To this day he hasn't. Georgia is very desperate, ever since Russia cut them off and took almost a thousand illegal Georgians from Russia and sent them back to Georgia.

Every empire fails in the end. Russian is no exception. It is bullying its neighbours trying topostpone its dath but nothing will help them. After mass murdering in Chechnia they will lose every single ally in Caucasus. They've lost historical ally Georgia, they lost neutral Azerbajdjan and will loose Armenia as well this letter will have no choice, it will go the same direction where Georgia does.

The simple truth is while Georgia holds on to the reforms in its attempts to modernize the country Russia holds on to its oil and gaz reserves to make their rich billioners even richer. Its political elite has nothing to offer to even its own population let alone neighbor nations.

Bye bye, Russia

PS: Oh yeah, don't seal anything to early. According to hundreds, even thousand international declarations by now from UN, EU, US, NATO,(even Russia) Abkhazia is Georgian territory.
