Putin will not counter the USA's moves!!! Yes, he has chosen to be the "spoiler" and adversary against the free democracies, instead of joining us.
However, he is quite aware that the soviet union collasped in part because it was trying to outbalance us militarily. This is just his rhetoric for his internal propaganda.

Of course, the defeatists and enemies of the free democracies will cry that it was Bush's fault. But, it and many other things were on Putin's agenda even prior to Bush becoming President the first time. Putin's plans and agenda was set and made many years ago. He is just following his established path to becoming a dictatorship and world super power. Bush was not in his equation when his agenda's for power were made.
Yesterday, for example, his military aircraft violated JAPAN's airspace. His aircraft were met by 40 Japenese fighter jets and they fled. Putin's increasingly testing of our defences in both air and sea, is not exclusively restricted to our assets, but other democracies world wide.
We, including NATO, are no threat to Russia. Our build up is just a response to putin's new aggressiveness world wide. And, the democracies of the world, including the USA are quite capable
both in industrial and military might to defend itself. Do not underestimate the USA or other democracies. To do so, is simply not reality.

There are more serious reasons for Putin's public reaction regarding our desires to place a missile base in Poland consisting of only 10 missiles. This is simply no threat to russia. Putin's reaction is a cover for his more serious agenda.

These "Few hundred nutters" are developing nuclear bombs, and they almost have completely developed the missile capability to reach Europe with these nuclear weapons. Iran is receiving technology from many sources. Some missile technology has been from russia. Iran just launched a long range missile last week under the guise of a research vehicle. This missile is also capable of being a nuclear weapon transporter. This is not a "Chicken Little" world. It is the reality!!

The reality is that if Bush can't work with Putin he's putting America in jeopardy of another arms race. Russia and the US have overwhelming mutual interests in shielding themselves from "terrorists". Bush is adept at provoking international hostilities and totally lacks diplomatic initiatives to serve America's most pressing needs.

Lance, while I respect your opinion, Putin's agenda began way before Bush became President. Diplomacy exists constantly behind the scenes. Bush and Putin even met personally a couple of times. Regardless, even if we had a different President instead of Bush, the current events and situation would still be the same. When we have a new President during January of next year, the problem will still remain, and probably continue to esculate into the future. If you study the histories of past dictators and how they obtained power, and why they sought to obtain power, you will see many comparisons with the Putin of today. Compare, for example, Putin's unique and intelligent manner that he incorporates many of the old soviet union 's tactics of power and control over his citizens. I have noted several links. If you are intellectually honest with yourself, you can see a pattern:

The russian government now controls the Media. It now controls almost all of the Private industry.
It has virtually stifled all legal political opposition. It has radicalized it's population, teaching and using it's controlled media to produce anti-American rhetoric each day, and even by putin himself in all of his public speeches. In contrast, have you ever heard Bush or our very own liberal media attack putin, or calling our enemy on a daily basis????? The answer is no!!

Yes, Putin ordered to close Russian bases in Cuba and Vietnam. He ordered to close almost all foreign bases, he was ready to work with USA on any world problem. But USA break off some military agreement with Russia and begin the new arms race, opened new bases close to Russia, now it will be the the missile bases. USA is threatening Russia everywhere they can. And Russia need to give a response. Together with China, who is also not happy about U.S. military activity.

HI.:)
We've got a bit tired of Putin haters here on Russian forum.
There is no constructive dialogue at all with some sick individuals here.
