Romania: Lawmakers vote to impeach president

Jul 6, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Boston.com

Romanian lawmakers impeached President Traian Basescu in an overwhelming vote Friday, paving the way for a national referendum that could see the divisive and increasingly unpopular leader ousted from the powerful position he's held for eight years.

To make simply clear, Mihai and Victor: I simply would have still waited some more months and I would not have mounted this crazy power hi-jacking, right word, Victor.

You simply cannot act like this in a civilized country. Basescu and PDL were anyway finished. Now, they should thank USL for such a support.

Let us see the results.

Victor, I'm telling you again: you really didn't understand anything about the current situation. Your opinions are based on the stupid Russian issue - sorry, Petru, but it is stupid. ;)
Oh, and another thing someone like Victor cannot or doesn't want to get: Basescu IS NOT center-right wing. He's a communist, he's always ben and will always be. As well as his slaves from PD-L, initially aiming for the Socialist International, now members of the EPP, aka a bunch of idiots who act exactly as the high positioned communists before '89 used to act all over the countries beyond the Iron Curtain.

Petru, yes, let's see the results. ;)
For now, a very interesting situation: by 10am, Bucharest was above the average on national levels, 3% higher than 2007. And I guess you know what this means. Also, in Bucharest S1 is first while S5 is last - and I'm certain you know what that means either.:D

Aha, I know, but what do you want if we are a left wing country?
Look where we are standing: choose among FSN-1 (PSD) and FSN-2 (PDL). FSN-1 (PSD) are really dumb old communists and FSN-2 (PDL) are some type of socialists, actually.
This is the result of 42 years of communism, which we cannot still seem to be able forgetting.
A thing: for the sake of Romania, I hope you are right and I am wrong.

One more thing: your motivation and their's "we could not resist any longer, for yet 6 months with Basescu" holds for the woman selling potatoes. I know what a president in Romania without government and parliament support can do, that is nothing. So, same question? Why all this now? Russian orders and Voiculescu needed to escape trial for corruption?

So, once more: I curious if I am saying: "Good bye EU!" and "Hello Russia... again!".

To me, this referendum was pointless and whatever the result would be, changes nothing. Anyway FSN-2 (PDL) was lost and people wanted to reelect FSN-1 (PSD). Do not dream the liberals (PNL) meant something, they will be wiped off, as soon as FSN-1(PSD) installs confortably into power. So sooner or later it would have happened anyway. So, why paying these money when we have none?

Worse, I heard now they (FSN-1) want to make yet one more impeachment and one more referendum and keep it this way for the next 6 months, as if we had nothing better to do than doing referendums and impeachments, just keep a dying politically man out of power...
"Excellent" strategy, I guess my four years old son would be able to make a better prime minister.

P.S: I have never voted for any of the followers of the communists, that is FSN-1 (PSD) or FSN-2 (PDL), just for info.
Also, for info, I meet the current and possibly outgoing president personally, in a situation, some years ago. He did not seem like a bad man, but one who listened very good and had good conclusions. So, I do not find him whatever the media throws on him today. Once more, he does not want to keep being a politician, after the end of his mandate, so I see no point in this trouble.

P.S.2: My votes always went to either:
PNTCD ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian-Democr... )
Or to FDGR ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Forum... )
For president, as I said, the situation looked different.

So, no point to bother for either FSN-1, nor FSN-2.

I am a bit sad we arrived there, though...

Yeahhhhhhhh!

Thieves lose!!!!!

Romania is great again!

Be patient, your country is slowly improving, this is work, and you have the right person in office to lead this reconstruction. He will of course deal with all the traitors, and he should.

In USA, when you work as government servant/worker, you are not allowed to partake in politics, voice your opinion, workers of government who take on politics here in the USA, are fired, and removed.

That should be a law in Romania, because some of you self proclaimed government workers who voiced your opinion online here, need to be removed from their jobs, and a law needs to be implemented to do such. This would keep everyone loyal to their leader, lots of traitors that caused this coup d' etat.

Next, should be Ministers sacked, new elections for them. Would love to see how the USL do now!

Romania speaks for Democracy today, by rejecting in voting for this sham played out by the USL.....

Ponta and his support, should be jailed for treason! When a president is removed from office, without a normal election, than that is coup d'etat, and those perpatraitors committed treason.

Can't wait for this investigation to begin, how many moves were made while he was on the sidelines, who did what? All the truth will come out, and everything will return to normal,

Yeahhhhhhhhh!

America is happy with Bacescu!

Ei, Petru, esti de acord cu mine? Citeste ce prapastii scrie rapandula asta de Victor.

Victor, read carefully:
1. The vote isn't over yet.
2. The score is about 90% to 10%.
2. The turnout is already estimated 50+%
So, who's winning? People or the dictator?

Ei, The Real Mihai,

regardless of what trash, or bullshit we have been discussing. Its been interesting, your definitely stubborn, and should join the USL, I think you would have done a better job than PONTA.

I don't think the vote from compatriots living abroad would agree, but I will respect if it turns quickly around.

Does that mean a new presidential election if it gets turned or are you stuck with current situation until 2014?

Either way, time is done, and we are done talking shit. See you next coup d'etat.

Victor, the trash talking american, hahahaha.

that was funny, thanks

I am waiting for the final results.

Due to the inability of ALL (read well: ALL) governments we had since 1989 till today, Romania is not even today with an electronic voting mechanism. This means:
- we are unable to log in somewhere with our ID numbers and specific credentials and vote
- we are unable to automatically read an ID when a person goes to a section for voting and thus avoid multi-voting.
Come on, we are not old women selling potatoes to start whining on the fact software may have "backdoors". I know this was the reason multiple governments used in order insure for themselves a number of possible diversions to avoid putting money in such a system.

This is why I said we were lucky to have Constantinescu for some years to divert us from the wrong path Iliescu put the country quite a few years ago. But his team could not do much more. With ex-Securitate agents still roaming at all levels. I expected from Basescu and his team more, but still things did not move much, as they are, as I was saying still FSN-2, so they wanted to also use the lack of modern mechanisms to gain around. So now, they should not complain.

Mihai, stop being such a propagandistic guy. Use your own brains, please.

All in one, unless situation changes, all should respect it. I think Romanians did an exemplary voting yesterday:
- on one hand, they slapped Basescu with almost 7.000.000 voting against him
- on the other hand, they slapped Voiculescu & co. by not going to a referendum they really did not have any need for

Conclusion: all should understand they act wrong, they cannot care less that our country crosses through the worst drought in ages, overhigh unusual temperatures, through a worldwide and European economical crisis and through severe local economical issues. I hope this wakes them up, ALL and makes them stop their games. Because all these games are meant only to get more power and thus use it for improper reasons.

Unfortunately, Petru, we should have implemented such a voting system many years ago. We didn't and we suffer the consequences. Politicians win. All of them. We suffer. All of us.
Now, unless the Constitutional Court agrees there were more than 2m people who shouldn't be counted in turnout percentage, we're going to see a victory of bureaucracy over democracy. There were 7,4m people who wanted Basescu discharged. The score is about 9 to one.
Anyway, I hope he's going to let the PM do his reforms on economy and no longer interfere.
Personally, I'm very sad Romania lost such a great President as Antonescu might have become.

Mihai, if we see:
- FSN-1 (PSD) launching themselves into a battle for the referendum validation, due to their numbers (I give a flying f..uck they missed it with some millions of votes, it could be just ONE vote and it would have made the difference)
- FSN-2 (PDL) launching themselves in a battle for 300 members unicameral Parliament
we are all doomed. Even Romanians abroad would end up feeling it in the worst manner. Not to mention the ones in Romania.
In such an eventuality, I see a very strong growth of the far right movements.

Immediately, they need to tackle:
- the meeting with the IMF
- quickly support the local production
- leave elections on the last place, otherwise they will face a BIG surprise in the autumn, all of them.
- avoid overthrowing money in the same way FSN-2 (PDL) did when they were in power, just for the sake of buying people's votes

I hope they are mature enough.

Wow, Petru, are you for real??? Scanteia??? LOOOOOOOOOOL
"You" - meaning Basescu - didn't win ANYTHING!!!
The score is about 9 to 1. The Court hasn't decided anything yet. The turnout might be just ok for impeachment, as there are only about 16m voters instead of 18m, according to INS based on the recent census and according to CNAS. Normally, the Court should consider the data and recommend impeachment.
However, if Basescu is allowed to get back to Cotroceni, it is said they're cooking an alliance to rebuild the old FSN, and leave the liberals out. Which is the worst scenario of them all!!! You shouldn't celebrate.

And, please, stop reading that moronic paper. There are serious newspapers in Romania. or at least there is one:
