Moldova enacts ban on Communist symbols

Moldova follows a regional trend of countries trying to come to terms with their troubled Communist past, but the Communist Party claims banning its symbols is an attack on the main political opposition.

On the one hand current Moldovan authorities outlaw Communist symbols and monuments, but on the other hand they prefer to legalize distinctly fascist symbols. I mean recent installation of wooden Triple Cross, which is the main symbol of well-known fascist organization Iron Guard ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Guard ) and current nationalist party Noua Dreapt (The New Right), in Orhei District. About what democracy are you talking here? Moreover, such Eastern European countries as Moldova are so actively striving for joining our EU now!

I agree Moldova should rid itself of its Communist past. People always say that times were better under Communist rule but this just being short sighted. It is Transnistria and its Russian rulers that are holding Moldova back from full EU membership and the benefits that will come with that in economic terms. Change is never easy or quick and great patience is required in transitional periods.. Moldova is a graeat little country, with its friendly respectful people. fantastic food and probably the most beautiful women in the world. Anyone that thanks Moldova is better under Communost rule is sadly mistaken and knows nothing of the world outside that archaic life.

Germany banned Nazi era symbols and that ban is in force today. Moldova is not doing anything out of the ordinary. When you think about the horror of both Nazi and Communist eras, you will understand that people that lived under that kind of terror, for so long, deserve a respite from the symbols that remind them of their suffering. People who pine for the old days, are manifesting the shortcomings of their present Democratic society, rather than the successes of the old dictatorships.

If you want to look at History borders were always being disputed and wars going on over land in Europe we even had two World wars,thats no reason to spew hatred at Russia in the 21st Century,did you know that after the revolution in Russia and the civil War there Russia was invaded by Western powers including Britain the USA and Japan?

Exist democratic communist parties. And "coalition for EU"(PL-PLDM-DPM) should to cooperate with democrats communists or socialists who are pro-eu, and with russian-phones.
