What "distinguishing features of classes entitled to special protections" do the religious have? None, that I can figure. Yet the 1st Amendment gives them those special protections, even to the extent of non-taxation.

That the Black Community and the Southern Baptists would single out homosexuals, out of many classes, as not deserving the term "civil rights" for their stuggles for equality, is abhorrent.

It's also extremely hypocritical.

Why are we shocked by this.

It's the Southern Baptists for crying out loud.

These people are more Nazi than they are Christian.

And yes I know people will take offense to that but the truth hurts.

I'm tired of smelling poo and saying it's a rose.

Gay tax paying citizens are entitled to every single right and responsibility that straight tax paying citizens have. No exceptions.

People are welcome to their religious view but they should please not think they have the right to impose the tenants of their religion on everybody else. They do not have that right.

Wow... did they even have some one proof read that. I mean Yes its a crock and full of bigotry, but the hypocrisy alone just makes you go wait.. this was a joke right?

"The resolution on civil rights includes a statement that the SBC stands against "any form or gay-bashing, whether disrespectful attitudes, hateful rhetoric, or hate-incited actions."

SOo they don't believe that denying people their rights is disrespectful, or hate based? Pifft, right.

They also need to look up religious liberty. They seem to have the concept confused with religious tyranny. When Only your religion has rights.. there is no liberty any longer.

They want a new name. Southern Baptists has too many negative connotations. Hmm. How about Homophobic Baptists? Hater Baptists? White Supremacist Baptists? We Hate Jesus Baptists? Unchristian Baptists? Unloving Baptists? Evil Baptists. Satanic Baptists.

They are concerned that their current name might turn off potential believers because it contains the word "Southern". How about their current beliefs? I think I would look at an organization's beliefs to decide if I might be interested in joining up, more so than their name.

I am sick and tired of religious organizations like this who have the nerve to think they have anything good to add to this world. All they do is sow seeds of hatred and discrimination. Keep your stinking name, Southern Baptists, and may your deity shrink your ranks to single digits in my lifetime.

This story is posted in the Gay/Lesbian Forum, and perhaps other forums as well. And if there IS a "Black Forum" there shouldn't be, because that's OBVIOUSLY racist. Is there a "White Forum" ? If not, why not ?

Being black is obviously a "chosen lifestyle". If black people would just reproduce with white people for several generations, then eventually they wouldn't be black anymore.

The fact that they choose to reproduce ONLY with black people shows you how racist they are.

It is racist to claim that choosing a homosexual lifestyle is the same thing as being born an African American.

Just because you have the false belief of a friend in the sky and an enemy down below, should have no effect my or anybody else's rights in any way.

Apparently even if you self-censor it out, alluding to the F word gets all comments you made on a topic deleted. #topixfacism

Sorry sport, but such a choice of beliefs is far from universal in the 'Christian religion'. Many of the Christian faith have read what the Bible supposedly has to say and not say on the subject who have chosen to believe that God loves His Lesbian and Gay children just as he created them to be and their homosexuality no more a sin than heterosexuality and its expression held to the same moral standards, including extending God's blessings on the marriages of same sex couples.

I really don't mind breaking this to you, but there are an awful lot of formerly 'Christian' things one can do which have been allowed to fall by the wayside and they had been there like forever too. Slavery, segregation, treating women as property with few religious let alone civil rights.
Anti-Chaos wrote:

Sorry cupcake, we're talking about the state's definition of marriage, not your personal choice of faith's definition. They don't have to change it if they don't want to, but your bigotry doesn't have to be shared with the rest of us under civil law. Besides, if I wanted a "church wedding" as a same sex couple, even out here in Kansas, I could find a number of places of worship and clergy more than happy to extend God's blessings on the marriage of a same sex couple and the law doesn't even recognize them. That horse left the barn DECADES ago, I went to my first religious blessing of a wedding of a same sex couple back in '84.

Lamb, the only evil is coming from the one professing himself to be good and that would be you. You want us to believe that your choice of religious beliefs somehow makes your intolerance, bigotry and ignorance acceptable, but not only that, we should acquiesce to said beliefs and said intolerance, bigotry and ignorance because you say God says so. You have a right to choose religious beliefs that I find to be morally abhorrent. Your hateful little church in the dell has the right to practice the ugliness that they preach in their own house. We have the right to be treated as equal citizens in our own country. Get used to it. And obviously we don't have enough power, because we are not yet treated as equal citizens in our own country. We shall not be defeated.

Bigotry is evil, you shall burn for it. See religion can be used to make any point, because it is BS.
