Ellen G. White -- the Myth and the Truth

by . Kaspersen

The Mormon connection

The Mormon prophet Joseph Smith experienced his first vision in 1820-23, some four years before Ellen White was born. Seven years later (1830) he published the first edition of the "Book of Mormon", and at the same time the Mormon Church was established. Fourteen years later the mormon prophet was shot and killed while in jail, and he ended his days as a "martyr". This was in August 1844, at a time when the Miller-movement spread like a wildfire, and two months before the "great disappointment".
In later years a growing number of researchers have noted the similarities between the early visions and experiences of Ellen G. White and the early visions and experiences of Joseph Smith. Even the online version of "Latter Day Saint News" featured a lenghty article, entitled"Similarities Between James and Ellen G. White's Suppressed 1880-Edition of 'Life Sketches' and 'Testimonies for the Church', with Joseph Smith's 'Pearl of Great Price' in 'The Book of Mormon,'" along with a picture of Ellen G. White.
The Seventh-Day Adventist Church is well aware that a bomb may detonate in the near future, and is making preparations by publishing books which they hope will soften the effects of the explosion. The Bible however says that all that have been hidden in darkness will be brought to light (1 Cor. 4:5), and this is happening these days. The amount of long hidden documentation on Ellen White and early adventism is increasing, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church is unable to stem the tide other than denying and explaining away and blackmail people who are uncovering long hidden, embarassing documentation. When I say documentation, I do not mean the stereotyped, glossy pictures, but information which places both Ellen White and early adventism in a somewhat surprising new light.
At this time the documentation on Ellen White's extensive literary borrowing, or plagiarism, from other authors without giving due credit, is overwhelming. The same applies to her false visions and testimonies. Ellen White is in the progress of being disrobed as an untruthful person who did not dodge a lie in order to protect her own "integrity". Maybe she was honest in all this, but that does not make lies into truth. Much material from her pen, which adventists believe are "inspired" matter she received directly from heaven, show up to be borrowed, at times verbatim, from other authors, and published under the name of Ellen White as a "pipeline from heaven", a "thus saith the Lord". This is dishonesty.

Documentation has been uncovered, showing James and Ellen White participating in extreme, fanatical movements in the years following the "great disappointment", and other documentation shows that Ellen White did not follow her own "heaven-sent" counsels, at the same time condemning others for not heeding them.
At this time the connection between Ellen White's early visions and experiences and Joseph Smith's ditto has been placed under the spotlight. And what has been discovered, is alarming from an adventist point of view.
It has been claimed that the adventist teaching on "the Investigative judgment" in fact has been derived from Joseph Smith. The Mormon prophet also claimed that the tower of Babel was built before the Flood. Ellen White probably borrowed this information from Smith when she put it into Spiritual Gifts - which says that the tower of Babel was built before the Flood (Vol. 3, p. 301). This of course is not in harmony with Scripture.
In his book Ellen G. White & Inspiration, Maurice Barnett says, after having compared Ellen White's first vision with the visions of William Foy (where the similarities are striking),
"Similar likenesses can be made between Ellen White and Joseph Smith of Mormonism. She also borrowed from Mormon standard works. Joseph Smith was killed in the Summer of 1844, bringing him more national attention right at the height of Millerite expectations. One researcher points out that Ellen White especially liked the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon." (Maurice Barnett, Ellen White & Inspiration, p. 41. Emphasis supplied.)
Researchers in the Mormon Church are beginning to get their eyes opened for these things, and are making their own research. These scholars have access to the mormon genealogies, and will probably come up with some amazing documentation showing the connection between the early Mormon Church and the early Adventist Church. They will document that several well known early adventist pioneers had close relations with well known mormon leaders.
There are many things adventists do not know about early adventism and their prophetess - information which now begins to come out of the closet. Maybe what we have been learning so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

They aren't. On another forum a guy listed 6 things that Foy said that EGW supposedly said. Out of the 6 things, he got one right!

>"Similar likenesses can be made between Ellen White and Joseph Smith of Mormonism. She also borrowed from Mormon standard works.

A Mormon scholar looked into this and debunked it.

What is common between them is that their god was Satan. Same for Paul. It's time to get back to ONLY the words of Jesus given to us by His eyewitnesses as proven by Jn. 14:26 and 17:17-21.

So reveal to me where EGW talks about an angel digging up some golden plates from under a tree that details one of the lost tribes coming to America?

By the way, Smith did not end his days as a "martyr". He tried to shoot his way out of jail and got killed in the attempted breakout.

EGW talks about angels carrying up some golden cards, something absolutely not in the Bible! Just as dumb as carrying golden plates!

"He tried to shoot his way out of jail and got killed in the attempted breakout"

Ellen White was after the money plagiarizing books! "shooting" their intelligent authors by plagiarizing their works.

Nobody said it was, nor is it salvational. Lies on the other hand will send people to hell.

Over $20k in debt when she died; took the estate 15 years to pay it all off.

Yep, real money maker there--you all should listen to martin and start writing books!

And none of them sued her for their loss. Quite the deal, eh?

How many settle outside of court?

When you plagiarize CHRISTIAN books the chances of the CHRISTIAN author suing are very low! See, Christians are not supposed to steal ideas nor works from others but at the same time those authors have good intentions to spread the message!

Because she was not sued by Christians does not mean she did not abused their Christian attitude!

Got proof that any settled? Secondly, according to the pseudo-lawyers around here, you don't settle before the claim has been made in court.

>but at the same time those authors have good intentions to spread the message!

And yet the critics complain when EGW does it. Hmmm. Does everyone see the double-standard here?

>Because she was not sued by Christians does not mean she did not abused their Christian attitude!

Where's the proof? And secondly you are contradicting your previous remark--which lie would you like to defend?

If you step up and make a claim you need to address the challenges that arise. Saying something doesn't make what you are saying true.

If EGW copied Smith as you stated you should be able to provide me with quoted materials from her where she states angels led to out into the woods and showed here where to dig up some golden plates that had the history of lost tribes coming to America.

I would also like you to show me she agreed with some of the other stuff Smith came from God; blacks were not really humans, men can have more than one wife, men can become gods themselves like Jesus was and create their own planets, Jesus and satan are brothers, etc.

I see no connection.

One thing is for sure:

In 1844, Joseph Smith was murdered.

Ellen White received her first vision, and lived to a good old age, and her fruits showed it.

In 1844, God began to "cleanse" the sanctuary---maybe getting rid of Joseph Smith and his lies was part of it?

In 1844, God began to "restore" the sanctuary---Ellen White's spiritual gifts prove it.

Deal with it.

There is none so blind as he who will not see, as she who has deceived an entire denomination, the likes of a fraud, the famous EGW.

You think you know who Ellen White was, but you don't.

Want to know about her?

ASK US.

Quit pretending you know about her, because you don't. We know her. We're experienced with her thought process as well as her writings more than you ever would be willing to be.

It is you who has been deceived. Not us. It is her writings which help to expose your deceptions.

Meeting with the now I beleive astro traveller Robert Brinsmead I had opportunity to view some of the similiarities between Smith and White's writings and there are definately similarities. Now mind you I am not a Mormon scholar, but I rather suspect if the writings were reviewed by such that any findings about White copying Smith would be a great coup for the Mormons. I dont care who copied who there is no truth in either. Both have health "messages" and wild end time speculation, and both have a blurred view of the Lord Jesus Christ, not shared by any evangelical Christian movement.

Know this: Satan's deceptions are so slick that the majority who call themselves Christian have been deceived into believing lies because they actually WANT to believe them just as you do Marcos.

Satan knew he had to get to Eve asap in order that he retain control of this world. Same thing happened after Jesus was here, as he knew he had to cause deception quickly and that is why he used Saul/Paul to get Saul to think he was listening to Jesus. He did this by making Paul's words sound nice and comforting with words like "love faith and grace"--so that the words of Jesus would be overlooked. He invented the "New Covenant Theology" and now just about everyone believes this lie.

Satan knew about the NEW KOH being started in 1844 called Adventists and knew this was the Dan. 2' Kingdom promised in the last days. Therefore, just as Satan did to the budding group known as "The Way" after Jesus left, he used Ellen White to deceive the very elect--those who would be bondservants of Jesus (see Rev. 2:18-25) and did a real good job. This is why the prophecy about the ten virgins spiritually sleeping is true.

My warning to all of you who are spiritually sleeping is to wake up and get back to the foundational truth--the words of Jesus given to us by ONLY His eyewitnesses before you find yourself shut out of that wedding feast and lost forever EVEN before the time of trouble starts! This is not a laughing issue!

Yes, Satan is involved in setting up 'groups' of people to go against each other--as the rulers of the world do with all of their wars. It's time to GET OUT folks! Jesus said it is the TRUTH that sets one free from sin--not grace or faith.

That would be great news to the Mormon scholar who looked into it and found nothing. Why don't you show the definite similarities?
