I first became aware of it watching Jan Marcusen's DVD set called 'Catholic Charismatic Attack On The SDA Church'. I think that was the title... more or less.<quoted text>Where can I learn more about this "NLP", it is widely practiced in the Ohio conference, where I used to b. I want to know how to recognize it, and guard against it.
Here's a few interesting things:
"Satan tempted the first Adam in Eden, and Adam reasoned with the enemy, thus giving him the advantage. Satan exercised his power of HYPNOTISM over Adam and Eve, and this power he strove to exercise over Christ. But after the word of Scripture was quoted, Satan knew that he had no chance of triumphing. 5BC p.1081
"The sciences of phrenology, psychology, and mesmerism are the channel through which he comes more directly to this generation and works with that power which is to characterize his efforts near the close of probation." 1T p.290
I believe hypnosis is one of the biggest reasons why our church is in the state that it is. Hypnosis from the pulpit in the form of NLP, hypnosis from the repetitive beat and rhythm in music, and hypnosis through television and entertainment. We have greatly underestimated the power these things have on the human mind.
Some things about NLP. Notice the CAPITALS. From wikipedia:
"Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to psychotherapy and ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE based on "a model of interpersonal communication chiefly concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behaviour and the subjective experiences (esp. patterns of thought) underlying them" and "a system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self-awareness and effective communication, and TO CHANGE THEIR PATTERNS OF MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL BEHAVIOR".
The co-founders, Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder, believed that NLP would be useful in "finding ways to help people have BETTER, FULLER, AND RICHER LIVES". They coined the term "Neuro-Linguistic Programming" to emphasize their belief in a connection between the neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns that have been learned through experience ("programming") and can be organized to ACHIEVE SPECIFIC GOALS IN LIFE."
In other words, NLP uses specific methods of speech and body language to hypnotise an individual, a group of people, or an organization to achieve a desire change in their mental patterns(beliefs and ideas), or in their actions without them necessary realizing what is being done. From a spiritual standpoint, this can be done from the pulpit in order to change the convictions or certain beliefs of an unsuspecting congregation.
Notice that through this subtle form of hypnosis one can be lead to have a 'happier life'. Have you noticed the massive surge of the 'goody goody religion','cheap grace', and 'love gospel' in our churches specifically since the early 1990s when our pastors began being trained in NLP? I believe with my whole heart that NLP is one of the main culprits behind this. If done right, NLP can shift the focus of an individual or a congregation from the seriousness of the war which we are in and the task at hand to the idea of needing to 'focus more on love of Jesus','feeling good about ourselves, and 'living lives with love and at peace with the community'. Do you see the danger that can pose, especially if it in the process of this hypnosis the peculiar task of our church is lost sight of? Has this not increased at an unbelievable pace in the past two decades?
