'Constantine's Sword' Angers Catholics

Apr 20, 2008 | Posted by: WiccaNews | Full story: abcnews.go.com

Call it coincidence or providence. A new documentary about Christian anti-Semitism that has drawn the ire of some Catholic groups premiered Friday in New York -- the same day Pope Benedict XVI visited a synagogue on the city's Upper East Side. ...

Pope Benedict even makes an appearance in the film, when he visits a synagogue in Cologne, Germany, shortly after his installation as pope. There he condemns the Nazi genocide but characterizes it as an outgrowth of neo-paganism.

... He just said Nazis came out of Neo-Paganism...

Yet another reason for me to completely mistrust this man.

The Romans have always done everything they can to take the Jew out of Jesus, from making up "holy" days to refusing to use the Aramiac bible and choosing the incorrect Greek versions, along with their own misguiding 'translations'.

Rome has always been about power and politics, nothing has changed there....

No clue here. Not one pagan I know would ever kill or harm another.

Nazi genocide was due to a drug and power riddled man with blind followers gullible enough to believe what was told to them.

Look up Adolph Hitler, he was into the occult, he hated anything that had to do with God. He thought he was a god. Yes, he was into paganism. He was interested in the roman gods.

I love the timing of the documentary, and it was enough to start rattling some cages.

What actually bothers me though, is that the pope is a learned man who has supposedly dedicated his life to the study of Catholic theology, so he MUST know the history of Christianity, and he certainly MUST have some knowledge of other religious philosophies including Paganism, so to make such a remark is beyond rediculous. It illustrates a willingness to spread fallacies and to perpetrate complete fabrications rather than face the world and stand up to the facts.

In reality, it would be better to allow the people to know all the information available on any religion, including their own, therefore ensuring that when one follows a religion it is because of pure belief, and not because the people have been brainwashed and misled.

In short, let all religions stand on a foundation of truth and history, rather than lead the people with lies and imposed ignorance.

Hitler was not a Pagan, he was a madman.

Except that in Mein Kampf, he writes in his own words that he is doing God's work.

“Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.”

( Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Ralph Mannheim, ed., New York: Mariner Books, 1999, p. 562.)

None of us here believe in satan,(as far as I know anyway) and are peaceful respectful people. The word "occult" by definition means unknown. So don't even think of equating any of us with evil or a monster like Hitler. It's offensive that he's even considered pagan in my opinion.

Yes, ol' Adolph loved the occult, you know tarot card readings etc, Adolph had spiritual advisors on the occult. Adolph hated Jews , Christians with a passion. He was infatuated with the roman gods. I guess that makes him a pagan.

I was told by what went on in wwII by people who fought in the war. They would tell stories of how Adolph had his soldiers kill many nuns and priests because he hated anything to do with Christianity and the Jews. Yes, he wanted to be a god and yes it is written in the history books that he was into witchcraft and the occult such as torot cards and found people to give advice on it. And yes he was pagan.

True! I'd also like to add that at the time Hitler came into Power, Germany was in bad shape. Hitler made all sorts of promises and the German people fell for it. He was basically a fanatical leader who was most likely psychotic and/or delusional. He was NOT a Pagan, NOT a witch. In fact he believed that he was doing God's work. Just goes to show you how very much the catholic bible is open to different interpretation.

By your logic, because George Bush is a Christian then ALL Christians must be warmongers, right?

Because several priests were pedophiles then ALL priests are pedophiles, right?

Shall I keep going?

The truth is it had nothing to do with Neo Paganism, it had to do with the moral failings of Popes Leo the 16th and Pius the 12th.

Pius the 12th, even gave blessings to the invasion of Russia, where every man woman and child was killed by the Germans for the first 500 miles.

How dare this pompous old fool try to shift the blame.

Hitler was attempting to form his own brand of Aryan supremacist occult beliefs that had strong tie-ins with germanic paganism and occult beliefs. He himself was a christian technically, but one of his lead henchmen, I forget who, was very much into the occult. They went around the world (mostly central asia) measuring physical features of people trying to find the Aryan homeland and the pure race that they hypothesized lived there.

But here's the thing. The brand of belief that they touted was a nationalist rewrite of both ancient pagan beliefs and a absurd perversion of evolution. It was a construct invented completely after the Nazi party came to power as a justification of their nationalism. Furthermore, it never played a strong role in the movement, nor was it ever popular among the people of Germany. Far from inspired by paganism, their 'paganism' was inspired by their twisted rhetoric. If christianity hadn't been the world-wide juggernaut it was at the time, I'm sure he would have tried to co-opt it.
