Yes God allows us

No our genes tell us

We can tell right from wrong

We are altruistic

Is it possible that free will does not exist, and that we all do things which are predetermined in some way?

Is our personal destiny and fate aligned together and inescapable, or can our destinies remain unfulfilled through our free will choices?

Actually, I believe that it's both. I believe the events in our lives are "destined" based upon the actions we determine ourselves. Think of it like a humongous tree, we start at the base and come to a decision, that path also has decisions, each "outcome" is destined to work out a certain way based on whether we "turn left or right".
I don't believe in an absolute fate, an ultimate destiny because it is all unknown until we make that decision.

Some, especially those who claim their "God" knows all try to claim "free will" but having your future absolutely known makes it impossible to act outside of what is known that you will do, so therefore that idea of Free will is an illusion of perspective.

Thanks Pagan and Proud, I like your views and find them very interesting. Especially your "idea of free will as an illusion of perspective" if one believes in an omniscient God. I'm personally undecided on this and you've given me much to consider.

I find it hard to reconcile free will with a destiny, a path of design, involving meeting particular people, like a twin-soul or soul mates, visiting certain places, or following a particular career, or belief. I'm currently of the mind that there may be key reference points through which a person's life will be guided.

I get confused with methods of divination in reference to this, especially in the way which a reading will influence the decision making of a person, and hence change the probability of the way one will turn. Also how more than one reading taken at intervals before a key event will change. I'm probably thinking about it too much though!:)

Well that's where the whole "destiny" thing comes in. personally I believe in "reincarnation", that there is an eventual ultimate goal that we are attempting to achieve and many "lifetimes" are lessons. I believe we get some "choice" before we "come back" that we set particular goals based on lessons we either passed or failed before. In that aspect some events in our lives are "milestones", things we are meant to deal with in order to learn. Other events are simply a matter of our "choices" here which may or may not lead to something of significance.

Well, in divination, no one can see an "absolute" future, I do believe that based on this particular moment in time, assuming you follow the particular pattern you have in the choices that you make that a particular future path is most likely and can be somewhat seen. However, not all choices make themselves apparent and unforeseen circumstances do change things, just as asking too often and relying to heavily on what is seen as a "guide" also changes events.
Think of it as peeking inside a birthday present. You aren't supposed to know until the time has arrived what's inside, some can "fudge" just a bit and get a hint BUT as with Birthday presents, the box outside is not always what's inside, counting on such knowledge often leads to big disappointments.

This is how is see free will: in our time in Summerland or what resting place we chose to rest we build a life that will empower our souls, once that life is set out, their are an endless number of probabilities when considering our "destiny" its more of the path we chose that matters not the end result.

our lives here are like classrooms for our soul. The love, the pain, the desire, the conflict, everything that makes us human are the things that make our souls grow. With each "left" or "right" our souls learn either what to do or what not to do. Consider that when we pass to our resting ground, all of our knowledge returns to us from every life we've live, its proven that retrospect vision is 20\20 so our souls say "what was I thinkin?" and evolve into a more knowledgeable state of being.

Our live are In no way pre determined, its our choice the path and the "forks in the road" are the decisions we make while on the aforementioned path. For those of us that know the Gods and Goddesses we can ask for guidance but its not always given because they are allowing us to learn. We all know that knowledge is power but what if knowledge is growth in ways we can't physically comprehend?
