Continuing the Catholic Anti-Pagan Pile-On

Full story: The Wildhunt Weblog

What is it with the Catholics lately? Earlier this month we see stories about an exorcism revival in Europe and Australia that seems to specifically target modern Pagans, and now we get anti-Pagan apologetics ...

We say spell, you say prayer. Both are ways people try to exact some sort of crontroll over the randomness of their lives. Ask any Christian who's ever bought a lotto ticket and asked God to make them win.
Ritual in general is used to commune with and ask things of various dieties. See any Catholic mass.
Catholics have only one God. Please use correct spelling.

Big difference, at a Catholic Mass we don't instruct people to rip their clothes off and have an orgy like that website said in one of Goddess rituals.
Prayers are not spells. We ask that God's will be done, not ours. With spells you are trying to FORCE your will and "power" to make something happen.
A Christian buying a lotto ticket and asking God to help them win is wrong to do that. Jesus said that we shouldn't ask God for things like that because God has knowledge of our needs before we even ask. Remember the lillies of the field?
I do, however, believe that it might not be wrong if you are in dire financial straights to ask God for the wisdom to guide you to provide better for yourself and your family or to pray for deliverance from poverty.
I think it's wrong thinking to pray like "Hey God, would you toss me down a couple of mill' here or when I go gambling in Vegas would you mind aiding my one armed bandit fever?"
Haaaa...uh, Like I said the same thing everyday..we never get a brake...why dont you haters just go to some christian websight and leave us be...haaa...your not worth my time.

No, I think they went astray for a little while, they ALWAYS come back, never fails , the young always experiment but find themselves back in God,s caring arms, because He ALWAYS loves them.

Please use more than one personal website for your reference on common Pagan practices...-_- Different Pagans do different things, just like different churches do things in different ways (some pray on Saturday, others Sunday).

I can say as a Pagan, I do not use my "power" to "force" anything. When I use a spell to say... try to pass a test, I ask the Goddess and God to ensure that the information I'm studying will be retained and easily accessed during the exam. Not bending reality to give me an A while sitting on my butt watching TV instead of putting in the effort. That's just silly. In that way, the 'spell' is functioning as a 'prayer'.

Quick question: I was compelled to continue this conversation on the assumption you are the slightest bit interested in what we ACTUALLY do, and not just mocking us. Is this true, Franck? Because I would be delighted to tell you my take on such things if you are truly interested, as would others.

I don't think I'd rip off my clothes and have an orgy for a ritual myself - not my thing. Just as there are different sects of xtianity, so are there different sects of Wicca and many, many different traditions of paganism. Paganism is merely following the ways of pre-christian faiths. I also don't do spells, but I talk to the gods of my ancestors, and have a small altar tucked away in my home that my son, who follows Asatru, and myself can share.

There's sects of christians who take poison and handle deadly snakes as part of their rituals. Do you do that? Does it sound weird to you? Well, that's how sexmagic and nude rituals sound for pagans who don't practice that way.

I'm sure he heard you the first two times.

If you're just on here to be a pill, not to contribute anything meaningful, then please find somewhere else to do it. There's plenty of Catholic and other xtian boards on this site.
If you are under the impression that you're going to convert someone, you are mistaken. I'm here to converse with folks of a like mind, and to make connections and learn about other pagans. If I wanted to be preached at, I'd hop over onto a Xtian fundie thread.

Ah, much better explanation, thank you.:)

I think I'm gonna officially bow out of this, I'm way to agitated to be of any real assistance. >_< I trust you guys can handle things.^_^

(Asatru is AWESOME! I asked my library to get some books on it for the reference section!)

The snake handlers religion is so out there, the religion itself makes up for less than one per cent. There are at least twenty thousand denominations out there, protestant that is. In the end times whitch alot of people believe in , there is supposed to be more pagan type religions popping up, ya gotta think, this is a sign that Christ will becoming soon, we do not know the hour or day but there are many , many signs out there that it is coming.
