Again i have have come across a few articles in recent days, regarding the ordaining of women bishops. As usual, the "old boy" network is up in arms about this, with the pope regarding it as " a step backward". Am i the only person to feel very saddened at these awful views? Will humanity ever move forward?

I really think that after all these years the catholic church will not listen untill the women start to actually leave the church. As long as the women are sticking around giveing the church the money and time, then the church will ignore them. But I honestly don't care, as I have long left the catholic church.

The recent ordaining vote comes from the Church of England. As a pagan and wiccan, I was pleased to hear of this vote as a "mainstream" step forward for women. As someone who believes in interfaith discussion as a way forward for all including witchcraft, its good to hear other faiths taking the lead. As a practicing witch, female spirituality is of great importance, I must admit I feel very blessed and pround to call myself a priestess and to be part of it. But, I cant help feeling sorry for the misguided and unquestioning majority out there. Thanks for the comment tailkinker. Ps cool name BB XX

Well, in one sense, there are many people that have chosen to include, even focus on, the female aspects of divinity (which is a very general way of summing up all the various paths, religions, & concepts of Goddess/es).

I cannot speak for more traditional church institutions. I have never been part of one and I am Wiccan because I of who I am, not due to comparing it to anything else. I do know that some more 'modern/progressive' type Christain churches try to empower women too. Yay for them.

I think humanity as a whole is moving towards a place where all religions release the trappings of dogma and focus on what is empowering & meaningful inherent in their systems. If leaving behind the dogma changes the essence of what they are (or eliminates them as choices) so be it.

This may take a long time in 'human years', and may not always be a... pleasant... transistion, but happening all the same.

There is a saying amonst Russian men, concerning women, that in many ways defines how men view women.

The Catholic church has alway been "anti" woman.

It was Eve who tempted Adam to eat the apple, which is why we get our monthly "curse".

Women seem to be around only for procreation purposes, and not much more. Perhaps that is how it was when the Bible was allegedly written, but many other faiths have adapted to modern behaviours. The RCC has not. They are trapped in the 13th century or so.

This is why my mother stopped practicing Catholicism... which, of course, is when I stopped as well. My mother divorced my father because he was an alcoholic and was easily angered. After the divorce, my mother was considered little more than a whore, and I was now a bastard child, in their eyes.

...and don't even get me started on how a non-Catholic who wishes to marry a Catholic in their church has to take a class. Yeah, a class taught by a man who's never been married, that's going to tell me how to be a good little wifey. I don't think so.

Because they fear loss of control. The religions that fear feminine spirituality are patriarchal(sp) based paths. They don't want to lose the upper hand.

As a global society, we need to come to a balance. Neither can survive without the other. We are equally important in survival and so spirituality.2323
