I'll bet that if they called the fire department or police, they would expect them to show up. What if law enforcement took the position that no help could be provided for those who do not share our beliefs? Or if the Fire Department assumed the stand that if you're independent in times of peace, don't call us when a fire erupts! All of this is just a lot of silliness. If you don't like this nation, well, just move out. Maybe they need you in Haiti or Uganda.

Frankly, you will find many Goshen College graduates in settings like Haiti, Uganda, also - the middle east, the Philippines, Indonesia - and still working in New Orleans. These folks take seriously the college's motto, Culture for Service and are working these settings and many more in ministries of service, relief, reconciliation, re-building, and seeking the common good.

It is easy to have a knee jerk reaction to such a stance, but it is a misunderstanding. The non-participation in the national anthem was not motivated by a disdain for nation, but a conviction of a higher allegiance to Christ that cannot be trumped by nationalism.

You will find Goshen College grads serving in hospitals, schools, and social service agencies across this country. You are certainly free to disagree with the stance that has been taken in the college's practice, but your reply indicates a significant misunderstanding.
