Sounds pretty weird though. The folks is already dead anyway. How in the world is baptism then gonna do any good. I think this is what the JWs that come to your door do. Maybe they baptize you for allah so you can get some from the non-existent virgins.

The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, have, Two Web Sites that will explain this concept to you far better then I can in this format. www.lds.org and www.Mormon.com , both of these are official church web sites. Doing the Temple Work for the Dead is very important for us. The Mormon Church has the most extensive Data Base of People who have lived on the Earth then you will find anywhere. We use this information for the purpose of Genealogy and Members and none Members alike make use of this information, to trace their family history line. Some people can go back hundreds of years. The Catholic Church as well as the Jewish Leaders, not letting us have this type of information will hinder but not defeat our purpose of having every person who has ever lived Baptized and to be able to receive the Blessings there of. The individual Spirit has the free will to either accept or reject the work being done for them. Mormons believe that there are certain ordnances that can only be performed on Earth and that these Ordinances are needed for progression. Thus the Proxy Baptisms. There are plenty of Dead People for The Church to do the Work for, however people like to use Church records in General to trace their family line some back hundreds of years. There are matters of Earth and matters of Spirit. Not every Mormon is a Temple Worker or even a Temple attendee but they can be if they so desire. Being Married and Sealed in the Holy Temple, is the Greatest Blessing a Mormon can have. Mormons believe that Families can be together forever, and that Death does Not a couple or family part. However the Church web sites can explain that to you, so much better then I can. I understand the Idea of Faith Groups wanting their Dead to remain members of their faith group, but with holding information prevents them from having a choice, at least in the short run of eternity.

This is from the same site: http://scriptures.lds.org/3_ne/11/11#11 Read 3 Nephi 11:11. See "...in the which...?" Isn't that supposed to be "in that which?" Now, the Mormon testament has many typos in it. I 've found some myself, and forgotten where some are. But I remember this one as it's supposed to be from Jesus. How could a Christian religion place a typo in their gospel when the quotation is from their God? Would you expect to see a typo on the Ten Commandments? That's hard to do, burning bush and all. But there it is in Mormonims, and from Jesus. So either the Mormon faith is inaccurate, or Jesus wasn't infallible. And there it is, folks. Now there was an abortion thread around here. What else can we find, hmmm? |
|
|
Yes, there's a couple of typos in my above post. But if I were writing a gospel, I'm sure I would have edited them out before press.
Back in the days when those British scribes were doing their translations with quills, how did they undo a typo? Were they burned at the stake or something? It was supposed to be a pretty bad thing to do back then. What does "in the which" mean? Anybody know? I remember two other typos, one I can't find now. And there were supposed to be many colloquialisms in the original Mormon bibles, but they've been modified to fit the language as it changes. Why hasn't that been done to this Nephi verse? "In the which." It's what Jesus said. LDS says so. |
|
Why, I bet there's a whole bunch of things that are wrong! We can probably find them if we just look hard enough! And I bet that's important to do, too, because if we just sort of look and then go out and do wrong things because it says to in the gospel, and we don't catch the wrong part, then we'll be bad and won't go to Heaven and we'll just have wasted our entire lives living out a lie and someone else's treachery! Wow! That sounds bad! |

Replying to all the sarcatics snits re typo-s... such fuss and fix thinking could be thot-time used for becoming more acquainted with Jesus: who invited all to think about: "who do folk say that I AM" ? It's possible that a discovery would be made that: Jesus is "The Way, The Truth, and The LIFE",, and all else is just "interesting".
Shalom, |

But typos mean that "The Way, The Truth, and the LIFE" might appear false in places.
And they're not "snits." I can be shunned from the community and the workplace for non-compliance with the accepted norms. I can lose my family and property for diverging from established tenets. I can even watch as homosexual marriage is legalized and accepted by churches. I can watch everything that I am not win, while that which I consider to be important loses. Why? Because a bible somewhere says it's supposed to be so. Or it better say it's supposed to be so, because if I find where it doesn't say I'm bad, if I find a place where it doesn't say anything intelligible at all, then I'm not bad any more. I am the right height, the right color, and have the right IQ. I am now good. You have to convince me I'm bad again, and I don't think you can do that. Not with your testament, anyway. An unwaivering to your god? "In the which" says that I can do that, but I'll flap in the breeze like a tattered sail in a tempest. If it is a minor typo, why hasn't LDS fixed it by now? Am I the only one to find it? No one else has ever brought attention to it? It's not in a passage open to interpretation, it's a direct quote from Jesus, a quote that Jesus could not have said and been grammatically correct. Does that mean Jesus was wrong at times or that he slurred his words? Too much wine? Or did he take opium for his pains when he got slivers at work or banged his thumb? I don't know, you tell me. I think I'm good now. |

Very interesting and I agree...thank you. All should follow the dictates of their own hearts and everyone should treat their fellow man with the highest degree of respect reguardless of what their personal beliefs are. Thanks again for your wisdom, I will write it in my book of quotes as it fits with my personal beliefs: Jesus is "The Way, The Truth, and The LIFE",, and all else is just "interesting". Shalom to you as well. |

So no real road trips yet? Nice looking bike. As far as the move not there yet...my husband is...but my son and I are just waiting for school to get out...first week of June. And it might not be CO but a transfer to Salt Lake City or around there...who knows. I'm getting the house on the market as we speak. I hate this part of it and I miss my husband a lot. This is the longest we've been apart. He flies back on the 9th and we head west as the realitor watches over the house...we are just going to camp out for the summer...he has an apartment in Leadville and we have the 5th wheele so I think there will a lot of camping and fly fishing this summer...not me...remember...I can't see the dang fish. But a good book and a walk down the stream as I follow my husband down the stream is fine by me. Can't wait to get back to God's country and the majestic mountains. |

And GAY used to mean happy, and Adult used to mean grown up. White used to have a positive connotation as in "upstanding and honest" but it and the other words have morphed into altogether different meanings. Such it true of phrases. The bible has been translated dozens of times and if you read the King James version it uses colloquialisms from the period and has been revised to bring it up to date today. So changes in the Book of Mormon would not be surprising. If I called you a gay person, you might be offended or you might be happy.

Yes we should treat our fellow man with respect and dignity........ some say treat others as you expect to be treated the golden rule......... then they say things like she is too dumb to read or understand........ she is a stalker when she responds to a direct address.......bagpipes ??? and others.......... yes we should treat others nicely........ sharing the truth is bullying ???? can anyone say hypocrite ??

And if I said that I were "in the way" you might take it to mean I was in front of you on the sidewalk. Or you might think I was espousing the Christian sect "The Way." So if I were in the way, what way am I in? I find The Way to be a particularly offensive Christian sect. I believe that they are in my way. No explanation for it, I guess, but they seem to be interpreting their bible as liberally as the Mormons theirs. And as far as terms and phrases go, try "dope." |

And lamanite used to mean American Indian and aztecs etc. Good point. |
I've looked at this and I've looked at this and I have to respond. If you mean white Christianity, then here on this thread we've seen where the white morality is. It's in typos. Typos that have been used to undermine and usurp just about every civilization on the planet. Using the philosophy of bringing religion to the heathen, this form of white totaled the entire planet. We as Americans are in a spot that we might not get out of now, and we're in it because of Christian beliefs. There was a chance when the New World was discovered, things didn't have to work out like this. But the Christianity of the Old World and its rulers found its way here, and now the New World has been defoliated just like the European forests were. It's been destroyed by white morals. As far as I know for sure, I have no Native American in me, I'm not speaking for the Indian chief bemoaning his lost hunting grounds. But I can see where the Mormon tried to include the American Indian in Christianity so as to lessen the terrible persecution of the Native American by the moral white man. Nice effort, but a better job of typesetting was needed to get away with it. I mean, I caught it. If I can catch an entire religion, imagine what a trained observer could do. I don't think I'll ever feel the necessity to act out the white mentality that you speak of. How could anyone do so? Is that "in the which?" You know how the Krishnas repeat "om mani padmi om" endlessly? Try chanting "in the which" for a few hours over the span of a decade or so. You'll find your white. |
