I ran across this information awhile back and only passing it along because I thought it was interesting in light of the subject of polygamy. I have no opinion on the matter just sharing:

On the matter of Polygamy, in early 1st Century writings(during the time of Christ), there are views that Christ was not only married but practiced polygamy and that is why he had a bad reputation and was eventually crucified.

These claims state Christ's polygamy earned Him this stained reputation. An obscure Roman physician from the 1st Century, Aurelious Cornelius Celsus, in his writings support this view:

The grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ was because he had so many wives; there were Elizabeth and Mary and a host of others that followed him.

This is a startling claim from an allegedly early source. There is a hint of a polygamous Jesus in The Apocalypse of James, a writing from the Nag Hammadi discovery, where James the Just is quoted as saying to Jesus:

“Yet another thing I ask of you: who are the seven gune [wives] who have been your disciples? And behold, all women bless you.”

At the crucifixion the gospels tell of the women who were present.

Epiphanius writes about the early Christians saying:

“They force the young people to marry even before they reach maturity ... They allow not just one marriage, but if anyone wants a divorce from his first marriage, and to contract another, they allow it - they do not hesitate to permit anything - up to a second and third and seventh marriage.”(30.18.2-3)

i think it was a prank call, they found a 23 yr old women and said that she was 17 so they took her away from her husband as well. this is a bunch of bull crap and i dont like it.
things are set in motion which can not be undone.

This is a sad situation.
And just exactly how would YOU sound if the state had just came in and ripped your children away from you without cause, evidence or due process, and then had a camera and microphone shoved in your face??

Disclaimer: I don't advocate child abuse in any shape or form so don't parse my words. Nor do I believe all are guilty in the FLDS matter and rounding them ALL up is just plain wrong!!!

http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm...

Take a look at the link for a different perspective on age issue...it's pretty amazing.(one example: 12-year-old Admiral Farragut in the war of 1812) I think today we coital our kids and listen to so called experts about what is appropriate in their development and don't teach them proper autonomy. All of us (Society) is at fault here for this failure in my opinion. We have become the herd mentality of what is proper and prop each other up to be seen as being responsible parents. I'm not advocating the likes of what the link is talking about nor am I for taking care of kids into their 20s or longer because we live in a society where they have a sense of entitlement and that we owe them. We are guilty for fostering this very mentality. If the marrying age a few years ago in Texas was 14 and then when they changed it to 16 after the FLDS moved there I think that is criminal to entrap them by changing the laws. I think they need to make polygamy legal or else it's just another angle of entrapment. Single marriages of 16 year old in Texas who are married to older men, these husbands are not considered pedophiles. But because these FLDS 16 girls who are 'spiritually married' aren't given the same rights as their counter 16 year olds of non-polygamy marriage their (FLDS)husbands are considered pedophiles. That is entrapment. If polygamy was legalized I don't think the FLDS would be so closed and secretive. I think one element of this whole thing has tones of religious persecution. We all need to take heed on this note...it could happen to us. That said they need to balance out prosecuting for real abuses in a constitutional way.

Looks like the legal system may have bitten off more than it can chew. This is going to be interesting to follow as the case progresses.

I agree with Indychick:
"Jail the men, sterilize the women and adopt out the kids. Scorched earth is the only way to stop this nonsense."
Except before they jail the men, they should chop off their balls, then send them to jail to take it up the ass!

If you read my post below, I did not say they were guilty, I said they desreved a fair trial.

It was a comment that was just opinion, no need to be fiesty.

"Hearing for polygamist children grinds to a halt..." What has this world come to? Personally, I don't think kids should get married at all, but polygamist children? That's just wrong. That really gets my goat. How's a kid gonna gonna take care of one wife, let alone several?

Well said. I was raised by a formewr Army Drill Sargent and at 16 years old (the leagal age to work at the time) was required to get a job and pay rent to my parents. One year later my father and I were at an Army recuiting centerr signing my inlistment papers into the U.S. Army and I was doing my Boot and AIT between my Jr. and SR years of high school. I have been taking care of my self from that timje on. However we have kids today who have neer had a job at 20 years old and 16 year olds beating each other to put them out on the net. Whos kids are worse? It can be hard to say at times. I think both sides are too extream.

After the call was received, they had to investigate and unfortunately, when you are dealing with child abuse you have to "storm the premises"... This is exactly how most investigations are done regarding child abuse.. You can't tell them you are coming.. you cannot give them time to hide the evidence. Once they were "in", they were able to see for themselves and based on interviews with the children they were able to make an initial decision which was.. these children MUST be removed until the investigation is over with. These children will be scarred for life, but not from being "ripped" from their parents but from being abused most of their life... THAT is the parents fault...
The children are taken and THEN there is due process.. That is how it works... This is a child protection hearing first.. then a criminal hearing.. two completely different things...
