Jehovahs Witnesses claim to have no clergy and are supposed to be totally unlike Christendoms' rulers who get special reverence and lord it over their brothers.

However, when asked why they didn't report molestion incidents to the police they claim it was because it's a violation of the clergy/laity relationship.

Well, of course. Whatever benefits them the most. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?

Following the model of first-century Christianity, Jehovah’s Witnesses have no clergy-laity division. All baptized members are ordained ministers and share in the preaching and teaching work. Witnesses are organized into congregations of about 100 members. Spiritually mature men in each congregation serve as “older men,” or elders. (Titus 1:5) They do so without being paid for their services.

Our preaching work is primarily financed by voluntary donations from Jehovah’s Witnesses. No collections are taken at our meetings, and members are not required to tithe.(Matthew 10:7, 8) Instead, contribution boxes are provided in our meeting places so that if someone wishes to make a donation, he may do so. Donors remain anonymous.

One reason that our expenses are manageable is that we have no paid clergy. In addition, Witnesses are not paid to go from house to house, and our places of worship are modest.

Any donations that are forwarded to the branch offices of Jehovah’s Witnesses are used to relieve victims of natural disasters, to support our missionaries and traveling ministers, to help construct our houses of worship in developing countries, and to print and ship Bibles and other Christian publications.

Each person decides if he or she wants to donate toward paying for local expenses, for our worldwide work, or for both. Every congregation provides regular financial reports for the information of its members.

well i can take you to many of christendoms meeting houses and you will find them alot less pallacious than the WTBTS bethal houses and plush kingdom halls.
also, dont kid yourself where your money goes when it enters the bank account of the WTBTS, it goes to pay child molestation court settlements, and feed their hedge fund gambling addittion.

Unless it benefits the Society's bottom line to either state that their elders are "clergy" and thus entitled to exercise clergy/penitent privilege or that they are not ministers OR clergy but merely "unpaid volunteers."

They just declare the rank and file and the elders to be whatever benefits them the most.

If what your saying is true, all of us baptised jw ministers should have had the wtbts stand up for us,and non of us wouldhave gone to jail or accept alternative service. I'm talking about the 1966 draft call where all ministers were exempt (IV-D) This exemption and I quote"Ministers adn full time students preparing for the ministry under the direction of a recgnized church or religious organization" So, what happened why were we thrown under the bus!

Why do you assume that disagreement indicates hate? Is this the "loving words" that you are taught to speak to those who disagree with you, or is it just your need to feel persecuted exhibiting itself?

We know exactly what you know, plus we've examined it and found it to be wrong which is why we are no longer JWs. Perhaps you should think about that for a bit.

interesting comment above, only problem is it has NOTHING to do with does the WT claim Clergy priviledge at times or Not

Could you please address that issue?

If the wt HAS NO CLERGY, who are they claiming should have
The priest–penitent privilege, also known as the clergy privilege, clergy–penitent privilege, confessional privilege, and ecclesiastical privilege, is an application of the principle of privileged communication that protects the contents of communications between a member of the clergy and a penitent, who shares information in confidence

the above is a common Training Techique that all JW are trained to do

if someone raises questions about the jw theology, always Cry "persecution" or in this case "haters"

while this works very effectively at a jw sponsored meeting or convention

in the real world where ones views, thoughts, ideas, etc are going to be challenged if presented on a public stage

Crying "haters" is in my view on of the Weakest responses a persons can offer

Critical Thinking persons quickly realize that the person has come face to face with a challenge they are not ready to deal with or address

in there hope, they believe that by shouting loudly HATERS HATERS it will somehow removed the isssue that has been raised for discussion

and of course it never does

The issue raised was Does the WT claim Clergy-Laity priviledge DISPITE DECLARING PUBLICLY MIND YOU--- WE HAVE NO CLERGY

##########

so while saying haters sounds impressive among the faithful

everyone else is asking--
Didn't the wt say the following about exposing information that is wrong ????

##########

It is not religious persecution for an informed person to expose publicly a certain religion as being false, thus allowing persons to see the difference between false religion and true religion.

But in order to make the exposure and show the wrong religions to be false, the true worshipper will have to use an authoritative means of judgement, a rule of measurement that cannot be proved faulty.

To make a public exposure of false religion is certainly of more value than exposing a news report as being untrue; it is a public service instead of a religious persecution and it has to do with the eternal life and happiness of the public. Still it leaves the public free to choose." (Watchtower 1963 11/15 688)

##########

to present a teaching or position that is Wrong and when pointed out shout HATERS HATERS IS VERY WEAK

I've heard all my lf how all the wtbts staff are volunteers, but I have never seen a copy of their 501(c)(3) Fed tax forms that have to be transparent. There are several non-profit/charity watchdogs, and none of them show the wtbts tax forms, but the legitimate ones arn't afraid to show it all.

You have to realize that if, every month, a jw doesn't turn in a time slip to report "what they have done for the WTS", that they will be labelled as inactive and the men will not be eligible for any appointments. THIS IS the only incentive that so many jws have while "engaging in the preaching work" to snag more recruits for the WTS.

You also have to realize that when jws arrive on people's doorsteps as unwelcome, uninvited and unwanted intruders, and in essence telling the householders that no matter what faith they may embrace....the jws are there to tell them they are all wrong and not pleasing to God.

Yes, you may very well nobly spend YOUR gas money and YOUR time to shlep through neighborhoods delivering the WTS message and push their literature but that is not the fault of the householders, is it?

I have known many elders that have never gone out in servce. They think their status exempts them, so are they inactive?
