Yup, Sturbridge Village wasn't far from where I grew up!
I think it was a 5th grade Field Trip, so cool.
I don't think Plimoth plantation was running when I was a kid either.
The "rock" is really pretty disappointing and obviously a rather new replica.
I need to visit the Plantation one of these days
I DO remember that as a 4th grader, I was also quite disappointed when seeing the Rock the first time....I can't tell you WHAT I expected...but *that* wasn't it, LOL!

Thanksgiving Remembrance

A time to reflect on the year that has passed.
A time to look forward, not dwelling on the past.

A time to give thanks and know we are blessed.
A time to not worry and not to be distressed.

A time to think about some things I have done.
A time to thank Our Creator knowing that His children are all one.

A time for missing my family, so many are far away.
A time knowing that one day, everything will be okay.

1 Timothy 4:4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

I found the core thoughts on a Native American page and liked it...so I added a few of my own thoughts and posted it here. It had "unknown author" at the end of it so I couldn't give the original credit to anyone.

I'm not really much of a poetry fan as such....but every so often one will touch my heart :o)

I have the Turkey and the Ham in the oven so that gives me a little time to rest before all the other stuff starts happening. It smells so homey in here right now. It's foggy outside, and cool and we are sitting here in a warm, loving home full of aromas that leave you feeling safe. I hope that everyone enjoys this day with family and friends. I hope we all pray for those who are not fortunate enough to be with family and friends for one reason or another. Pray for those who do not have a meal as we are having, and please help them to find some place that is offering those meals to them today, and everyday. If you can help in some way, please try to do it.

Happy thanksgiving to all of you, and may God bless you each and every one.

You are the ones who are enslaved to the world and its traditions. The broad road is the easy road, doing what the majority do when the majority do it. No friction, no struggle, just go with the flow.
Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones who do not allow themselves to be squeezed into the world's mold.
Witnesses think everything through, read what God's word says, make decisions about everything on that basis, and then do what is right, no matter what the rest of the world does and thinks.
It is not the easy, broad road. It is narrow and harder, but it leads to everlasting life, whereas the broad road leads to destruction.
On behalf of mrs jackson. She would like to thank all the nice folks that responded to her invite to her thanksgiving day dinner at her home.It will be a great celebration for all and give thanks to all the fallen soliders that fought for our freedom. She is planning a huge christmas celebration too. There will be gifts stacked to the cieling, songs sung around the fireplace and good food and wine for all to enjoy. And as for all the common jw's out there and you know who you are,Please do your normal routine that you do every year. That is go door knocking selling colorful pamphlets printed by the wt org printing company and most of all "FILL OUT THEM TIME CARDS FOLKS" We are watching you!!!!!

Matthew 15:35-39
Then Jesus told the crowd to sit down comfortably on the ground. And when he had taken the seven loaves and the fish into his hands, he broke them with a prayer of thanksgiving and gave them to the disciples to pass on to the people. Everybody ate and was satisfied, and they picked up seven baskets full of the pieces left over.
2 Corinthians 9:10-14
He who gives the seed to the sower and turns that seed into bread to eat, will give you the seed of generosity to sow, and, for harvest, the satisfying bread of good deeds well done. The more you are enriched by God the more scope there will be for generous giving, and your gifts, administered through us, will mean that many will thank God. For your giving does not end in meeting the wants of your fellow-Christians. It also results in an overflowing tide of thanksgiving to God. Moreover, your very giving proves the reality of your faith, and that means that men thank God that you practise the Gospel that you profess to believe in, as well as for the actual gifts you make to them and to others. And yet further, men will pray for you and feel drawn to you because you have obviously received a generous measure of the grace of God.
Revelation 7:11-12
Then all the angels stood encircling the throne, the elders and the four living creatures, and prostrated themselves with heads bowed before the throne and worshipped God, saying,“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and strength be given to our God for timeless ages!”

What do you do on thanksgiving except eat a turkey and get drunk? You can do that any day of the year.
I don't even like turkey.
.
Is everything always a negative with you??Why would you assume that everyone drinks to excess..is that what you do.?? And not everybody eats turkey.. nor can they afford it.. Thankgiving.. does not need a turkey.. It's a shared meal .. Make lasagna.. OR what ever is the familys favorite.. Do you actually ever reflect on what the thanks is??? And who you thank?? In reality..most familys are just the family for most meals.. It is not generally an every day occurance that extended family are sitting at ones table.. That you get the chance to catch up and converse with one another face to face...

Tell me another time of the year when turkey is as inexpensive as it is now. You don't honestly think that this is the only time we eat these foods. NOT!
The thing is: everyone has a day off from work, and it is nice to gather for a meal with other family members. Weekends for those who work full time are far too hectic.
Amen emmaswish! This must be something they are telling them to think and say now, because on another site another JW said exactly the same thing eagle did!
Oh how they can come up with them huh? LOL! Talking about 'being told what to do or say or think'!

Now pay close attention and THINK, Yuni, as you seem to have a curiously warped and tainted way of thinking.

When YOU (and I imagine you still do this) get dressed to the nines and gather together at the Kingdom Hall to celebrate the death of the Creator's only begotten Son by refusing his invitation to "do this in memory of him"....are YOU "happy" that Jesus died the terrible death that he did?

What KIND practices are you in favor of "celebrating" in support of what Jesus did for YOU?

Your openly and deliberately choosing the option of "just saying NO to Our Savior"....carries a whole lot more weight than the option of ones taking a specific day to gather with loved ones and share in the giving of thanks for all their blessings....and to enjoy the loving association and the joyous sharing of a prepared feast with others.

Loveless remarks such as yours....are clearly hateful and show NO appreciation for the heartbreak that people of another ethnic background have suffered.

Being thankful for everything we have and appreciating all our blessings from above...no matter how you slice it....

in no way reflects badly on how deeply we feel about the atrocities that non-Native Americans have perpetrated against our NA brothers and sisters.

To even HINT at anything as ludicrous as what you have more than implied here....gives the readers yet another glimpse into your unreasonably twisted and most ignorant mindset.

After the giving of thanks first....for our own privilege of gathering together....then our mealtime prayer included blessings to be upon those in MA who were honoring our NA B&S.*During* dinner there was a sincere and heartfelt discussion touching on the plight of Leonard Peltier and of the continued mistreatment of First Americans everywhere.

It seems that those who know the VERY LEAST about certain subjects (as OFTEN seen here by your "friends" as to "how NA's think, feel and act".....are also those having the VERY MOST to say concerning things they keep proving they have no "accurate knowledge" of.
