Are Jehovah’s Witnesses safe from TRALI?

This question is raised in relation to Jehovah’s Witnesses and blood transfusion.

The Watchtower organization warns its members that TRALI is a life threatening condition following a blood transfusion.[1]

But does the Watchtower organization tell its members that TRALI is also a life threatening condition following transfusion of blood products it lets the membership accept?[2] If so, where?

Marvin Shilmer

1.“Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), first reported in the early 1990's, is a life-threatening immune reaction following a blood transfusion. It is now known that TRALI causes hundreds of deaths each year."—Awake, published by Watchtower, August 2006, p. 7.

2. "TRALI has been associated with the following single-donor components: whole blood, fresh frozen plasma (FFP), cryoprecipitate-reduced plasma, random donor platelets (pooled), apheresis platelets, red blood cells, peripheral blood progenitor cells, and cryoprecipitated antihemophelic factor. It has also been induced by immune globulin intravenous from pooled plasma."—Holness et al, Fatalities Caused by TRALI, Transfusion Medicine Reviews, July 2004, Vol. 18, No. 3, pp. 184-188.

The Governing Body has noted the growing tendency for people to obtain reading material from the Internet and has carefully weighed the effect this trend is having on the printing industry and on our ability to obtain paper and equipment for printing. Based on these changing conditions, effective with the issues of January 2013, Awake! and the public edition of The Watchtower will be reduced from 32 pages to 16 pages. These magazines that we distribute to the public will continue to provide a rich supply of enlightening material to attract people to the truth of God’s Word. Since each issue will contain less material, it may be possible for more translation teams to be able to translate every issue of Awake! and the public edition of The Watchtower, thus increasing the number of languages in which they are available. The study edition of The Watchtower will continue to be a 32-page magazine.

Well Gods word does state if we abstain from ..blood and....etc

Its "good health to us"....So God Word knows best.

By the way..thats found in scripture, long before it was printed in watchtowers.
