Consider the following statements:

Case 1:

""The book then raises the logical question. "Is it reasonable to assume that the religion imposed at one's birth is necessarily the whole truth?" Thus, every person is encouraged to examine other religions with an open mind.–The Watchtower, April 1, 1991, page 17.""

A very noble sentiment - but how true is it?
from the othe side of their mouth we read...

""Why do Jehovah's Witnesses decline to exchange their Bible study aids for the religious literature of people they meet?... it would be foolhardy, as well as a waste of valuable time, for Jehovah's Witnesses to accept and expose themselves to false religious literature that is designed to deceive.... it is out of wisdom and respect for God's counsel that Jehovah's Witnesses do not make a practice of exchanging valuable Bible study aids containing Scriptural truth for religious literature that disseminates error or apostate views.–The Watchtower, May 1, 1984, page 31.""

Doesn't sound very 'open minded' to me.

Watch this space for case 2,.

TRUTH book p.13 Tells us to examine our religion. "Since God assures us that practicing true religion
brings great contentment now and opens up the way for eternal life in his new system of things,
it surely will be worth your while to make such an investigation,(Deuteronomy 30:19,20)
You have our warmest invitation to do so. Why not investigate now?."
The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life...p13

AWAKE! Oct-22-73 p.6 Examine both sides of a matter.

WATCHTOWER. Jun-15-85 p.12 Refer to older publications if needed.

WATCHTOWER. Nov-22-84 p.3-4 Article on having an open or closed mind.

AWAKE!. Jun-8-94 p.21 Encourages us to have freedom of thought.

These are great articles

but

HOW DOES THE WATCHTOWER REALLY FEEL
about people looking critically at their writings.

WATCHTOWER. May-1-57 p.284 Do not criticize the organization.

WATCHTOWER. Mar-15-86 p.16 Any questioning of the organization reveals a Satanic influence.

WATCHTOWER. Feb-1-52 p.80 We should meekly go along with the organization.

Qualified to be Ministers book 1955 p.156 We should believe all things the WATCHTOWER says.

WATCHTOWER. Feb-15-81 p.18 Tells us not to be skeptical of slave class.

WATCHTOWER. Jan-15-83 p.22-27 Avoid independent thinking.

WATCHTOWER. Jun-1-67 p.338 Heavy research not needed only WATCHTOWER publications.

WATCHTOWER. Apr-1-86 p.31 Must accept beliefs unique to JW'S.

WATCHTOWER. May-1-84 p.31 Stay away from literature that deceives.

confusing isn't it

Well you have to consider the intended audience for those comments on being "open-minded." Those quotes were not intended for the rank and file, they were intended for non-JW householders encountered in their ministry.

They want those householders to question their beliefs. They want the householder to approach their pastor with questions. Its the householder they want to make uneasy sacrifices. Its only the householder who sbould have an open mind to their teachings only.

Such an audit is never required of a JW because their mind has been made up that they only have the truth. Once they reach that level of belief is reached, the brain is shut down and checked at the doors of their Kingdom Hall.

Oddly enough, JWs will see no problem with this. On the one hand, they will urge anyone else to examine their faith, but then they will convince themselves that, since THEY have the "truth" they should never consider anything else.

Doesn't it occur to them, however, that if they really DO have the truth, examining the beliefs of others should have absolutely no effect? Why is the WTS SO afraid to have JWs look at anything published by another group?

This was something that always concerned me, even as a JW. Frequently at assemblies, the so-called at that time members of the "evil slave class" would leave pamphlets on the windshields of the cars parked at the assembly site.

I was a child at that time, and the adults would generally rush around gathering up and destroying all of these pamphlets before anyone could get a chance to read them. Even then, I wondered why the "truth" was so fragile that it couldn't shine through the supposed "lies" being presented in those pamphlets.

Once again, we see the control in full force...and JWs generally don't question anything.

The watchtower has already done their thinking for them so there is no need to do any for themselves once they've initially accepted it.

When adjustments in thinking are necessary, they will tell you when that can happen. Although it is usually several months after the change.

The apologists on here cannot argue that association with apostates, anti-JW's, or former JW's will corrupt their thought control.

They spend plenty of time on here in discussions the average JW will run away from and they are still just as mind numb and controlled as they ever were.

.
. First off ..it is in the writing other religions that the Wts..writers..get their so called new light..

Due to God's word ..that we check and discern if what we have heard is in agreement with God's word.. Well then why should our conscience and discernment be governed by a church?? The fact is ..if we all did our own home work..( Read in God's word in the manner that he has told us to.) the KH would be empty.. as Jesus said... why would you want to go back into bondage once you had been freed... but that is exactly what the church is.. And any discerning person..can see that.. They have turned their members into unpaid slaves.. And the people like it that way.. GOOD GRIEF!

Ok .. thanks for the input... How about two faced
Case NO 2 ..

Case 2:

""Yes, the international society of Jehovah's Witnesses is living proof that hatred can be abolished.... It is a foreglimpse of a worldwide program to eliminate hatred and it's causes.–The Watchtower,"" June 15, 1995, page 8.
Living proof that hatred can be abolished? Sounds great....

BUT Just don't try leaving the organization:

""We must hate in the truest sense, which is to regard with extreme and active aversion, to consider as loathsome, odious, filthy, to detest.–The Watchtower, October 1, 1952, page 599.""

It really makes one wonder how they plan to go about 'eliminating hatred and it's causes.' WHEN THEY THEMSELVES promote and condone Hate within the rank and file.
