Ok, so I have been spending most of my time out with my horses.
My colt is now 5 1/2 months old and on the 1st of Oct I separated him from his mother.
They are only a few pens away from each other so they can see each other and "talk"...
It went really well. I was expecting lots of drama and a frantic colt and mare, but it was quite the opposite!
A pleasant surprise actually!
There was a bit of upset for a few hours while they paced back and forth and called out to each other, but amazingly, the geldings around my colt came to his rescue!
They have been comforting him and he is playing with them and sleeping next to hem and all is well!
He still calls to her about once every few hours and she sends him a quick whinny back and they then go about their business.
The mares milk is drying up and she seems happy in her new pen and especially that she can see her baby.
Everyone said it would take a month for them to separate but this went really smoothly!
I have been more anxious over it than they are!

Well, that is all that is new here.

Good to hear from you, and I'm glad that things are going well for you horse-wise. What color is the colt these days?

Maybe a PS is in order...

I was going to separate them when he turned 6 months. But he has longer legs than his mother and I was afraid that he would just jump over the fence if I waited too long to separate them.
He is going to be a big horse!
What a great honor it has been to have these animals in our lives!

I can no longer keep them in the same pen and he is due to be gelded in a few months, but he and his mother will be together daily in the arena and play like they always have. So easy has this gone I really think it is because I made sure they could see each other and talk and know where and what the other is doing.

So many babies are taken away from their mothers and they panic and so do the mares because the separations are very traumatic!
I tried to make it as easy as possible and without cruelty to their emotions.
So far so good!

Good question. I need to download my pics but my other computer is in the shop. This laptop is beyond me how to do it.
He is totally black legged. Hs back is black. His head as well except for around his eyes and nose and that persists as a tannish color.
The rest is dark brown and my guess is he will end up black eventually.
He has a very Friesian head. He is so big!
Worked him in the round pen today. He got the idea quickly. I was hoping to get some of that energy out of him. No luck there even though he had a good workout.

My arm?
Nothing. I am waiting for another year to go by so I can have the metal bar taken out of it.
It still hurts but i think that is from the screws in the bone rubbing on meat.
And it aches when it gets cold. Any other question?

INTERESTING
IF SHE CAN HANDLE HER OWN BUISNESS WHY ARE YOU TELLING OTHERS ON HER BEHALF?
You don't even have a half a clue to which I am even speaking about w/her, BUT I do remember you good olf slob of your buddy telling EVERYONE on here just how much of a MAJOR DRINKING Problem YOU DO HAVE!

Why don't you mind your own MAJOR DRUNKENNESS and gain some self control and try and get facts as your just making a total fool out of your Drunken self?

I love Pam, and love hearing about how shes doing, this is NOT a Private matter STUPID DRUNK!

Thanks Shel, it was so pretty today that I went on a nice long ride along the river.
Very peaceful and this is my favorite time of the year here in smog town.

I so happy all is going well with the horses. I'm quite jealous. We had horses many many years ago. I had one myself and loved him. Sounds like the little family is doing well.

Oh yippy. 'she' got black, but you asked for red. You will have to explain what they are about to her. I sent the receipt because I thought it was cool. :-) please forgive procrastination.

Yes, thank you for the suggestion. I never knew anything like this existed, but I LOVE the black one. Please do explain the significance when you get the chance.
