James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
How can one humble themselves as James spoke above in this verse? There is much written by religion over 2000 years about how to humble oneself. But there is no real mystery in James's words, we're not here talking about beating our body, or meeting some complicated rules, or commandments.
What we are speaking about is simply having another mind. There are only two minds according to God, the mind of Christ, which is free from the lust of the flesh. James in his letter has been speaking about the fruit of two minds. The other mind, is a mind of the flesh, which lust, and yearns in jealousy, the spirit of the fleshly mind is legalism, which cannot be humbled because it does not exist in the mind of Christ Jesus, but is instead killed and dead in Christ.
However, the mind of Christ, his spiritual mind, is controlled by the Royal law of love, and is free, why? It is humble because it is the mind of Christ, which is in submission to God. This mind has the fruit of God's Holy Spirit, hence, making it humble. In other words, the spirit mind of Christ is humble because it is a servent mind. It does not seek equality with God, but works as a servant in the body of Christ having one mind, the leader of the body will, Christ Jesus is mind.
Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good.
This is a mind that James wanted the brothers and sisters to put on, the humility found in Christ mind as a gift given by God to Christ's body members. James was not speaking about obeying commandments greater, that is, being a harsher on our bodies by the human will, so that it's good brag, as if it is more righteous than others comparing itself against itself by the fleshly mind. No! There is no self will of the flesh in Christ Jesus. The flesh is dead in Christ Jesus, and of no value at all. One must accept the gift of God in undeserved kindness, that is, without earning merit by self will.
Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Don't set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don't be wise in your own conceits.
