Also I have learned that love is how you behave, not necessary what you "feel" and thats a discipline in itself..to 'act' against your feelings in principle love..I find thats a disciplined life in Christ , practicing these things..and thats part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
LL~

I completely agree. While we certainly feel love deeply, I believe true, mature, deep, abiding love is what we do. Feelings are static. Often we cannot control them no matter how hard we try. We CAN control our actions and display real mature love regardless of how we feel.

Thank you Theo for mentioning it in the first place..I would love it, if we could discuss Jesus parables more often on an open forum like this..
Because I believe most Christians have a valuable facets of reflective light to bring on the parables..
A little girl about eight was asked " what did you learn from the parable of the prodigal son..and she said " not to get jealous if my parents give a party for my brother and not for me"
LL~

These would be interesting discussions.

Why not start some?

nice little post Becky..at least there is a recognition of obedience to Jesus , in this post , so I don't believe I need to go further here ..I agree we don't have to join any organization for salvation
Because it is written " now you are Christ body and members individually"
So I know I am part of the Body of Christ, NOW..and its Jesus who gathers us together.
Hi LL. For the record, there is more than a recognition of obedience in my post, heart and life. I do Obey God to the best of my human ability in all that I do. I believe that obedience is necessary in order to stay connected and focused on living for God and maintaining your relationship with him, but it comes ONLY after one has accepted Christ as their Savior and changes in the heart take place. If one doesn't believe in Christ or have accepted him, then there is no desire to be obedient. unless of course you belong to the JW's as obedience comes before Christ in this religion. It's obedience to the Society or lose your position in 'God's chosen organization' which basically means, no kingdom reward.
Blessings!

Yes I agree " Faith come by hearing, and hearing the word about Christ..so Faith in Christ comes first

But then like you we are called to respond in action , "repent and be baptized and you will receive the free gift of the holy spirit."

The word repent means " turn away "

The word translated “Repent” is the Hebrew word translated “turn away”“turn yourselves from”

Asking God to forgive you of your sin means nothing unless you repent from your sins (turn away from breaking the law- because sin is lawlessness). In fact, if you don't "repent" from your sins, your prayers are an abomination to God.

Amen..Thats why Jesus told us to make DISCIPLES of people of the nations..because 'disciple' comes from the word 'discipline' and as we obey Jesus commandments, his words are 'spirit and life' and one of the fruitages of obedience to his word , his "sayings" [spirit] is self-control.

Did you receive the Holy Spirit after you repented and was baptized,or after you heard the Good News?

Ephesians 1 [ 13] But you also hoped in him AFTER you HEARD the good-news about your salvation . By means of him also AFTER you BELIEVED, you were sealed with the promised holy spirit.

Guess how Jesus knew we BELIEVED??

Let me ask you a question now

Do you believe you are to make disciples for Jesus baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the son, and the holy spirit
and teach them to obey all the commandments of Jesus??

Yep, you are correct. In order to be obedient, one must repent of their sins. But as I stated, in order to want to be obedient, a change in the condition of the heart must occur and this comes with accepting Christ first and foremost.
Before I accepted Christ as my lord and savior, I had no desire to repent of anything. I was mad at God and wanted no part of Him. I blamed him for my mom and dad splitting up. All in the name of religion. I didn't want any part of a God who would allow two people who really did love each other to divorce because they had different religious beliefs. My father became the most hateful person ever and my mother could not live with it any more. He got back into the JW religion after having been disfellowshipped many times before for numerous divorces. He truly started treating her horrible all because she would not attend meetings with him. So yeah, I was mad at God. But once I allowed my life to spiral out of control with all manner of harmful sin and I pretty much hit an emotional and spiritual bottom, lo and behold, God and Christ got a hold of me. They showed me that there was love in them and outside of religion. I ended up giving my heart to God and putting my faith in Christ as my savior and have repented/turned away from my sinful life. I have been blessed ever since and I do my best daily to be obedient to God and his Holy words.
Glad we agree on these things.
Have a blessed day LL.

Those are Peters words when the crowd HEARD the good-news about Christ, and yelled out " men brothers what shall we do?' Acts 2 [37-38]

So I stick with what the Apostles tell us to do, when we have HEARD the WORD.

Faith without works is dead.

LOL. You really should read the context.Peter was not giving them the Good News it was BAD NEWS.

Acts 2:23 [njkv]
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, YOU HAVE taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death

Peter was talking to the JEWS ONLY they had kill the Messiah. That is WHY they needed to REPENT.

I don't. The only time I say anything is when YOU make it a requirement for salvation.

Good then you must know we heard the Good News and then believed it,THEN we were sealed. Not repent and be baptized as you said earlier.

You forget he also said " repent and be BAPTIZED and you WILL receive the free gift of the holy spirit"

And it is an act of Faith to be baptized.

Faith without works is dead.

Peter further said in 1 Peter 3 [21] That which corresponds to this [Noah and the Ark] is also now SAVING YOU, namely BAPTISM , not the putting away the filth of the flesh but a request made to God for a good conscience"

How do you understand the saying that BAPTISM is now saving you..[present tense and continuation]

You have spoken up against repenting and baptism , as not being required for salvation...and Peter expressively stated it is baptism that is now SAVING us [ which is what salvation is..saving] a request to God for a clean conscience.
