The other day. I was passing through the area of my local courthouse, taking care of personal buisness and i passed one of the friends from one of the local congos. I hadn't seen her in quite a while... We exchanged pleasantries and she told me she was in the area because she had to report for Jury duty.

As long as i have known witnesses. I have never known them to serve on a Jury. I asked her if witneese were allowed to serve. She repilrs yes.

Well, reporting and serving are two diffrent things. As a tax paying law abiding citizen citizen. One must do their civic duties.

Well, are Jw's allowed to serve on a jury?

*** w97 4/1 p. 29 Questions From Readers ***

In the final analysis, each Christian faced with jury duty must determine what course to follow, based on his understanding of the Bible and his own conscience. Some Christians have reported for jury duty and have served on certain juries. Others have felt compelled to decline even in the face of punishment. Each Christian has to decide for himself what he will do, and others should not criticize his decision.¬óGalatians 6:5.

Thank You. This answers my question as to the witness view.

I didn't know this.

Jury duty is the law.
But who would want an idiot Jehovah's Witness on their jury??
They have no idea of what the word "truth" even means.

not sure how they could honestly sit on a jury and be fair, especially when it comes to certain cases..

Any sane lawyer know the JWs are a cult, any JW would be dismissed.
If they are dim enough to join a cult they are way less intelligent than any other prospective juror.
The legal matter would become all about the WBTS.
"Oh sorry judge, I cannot take a poop at this time, do to my faith, JW's can only pee on the even hours, and poop on the odd, this is Bible based, let me please address the courtroom to explain"

she may have been there to give her reasons for not partaking, in Australia, even when writing to the Sheriff of the court with your scriptural reasons for not wanting to sit on a jury, they usually reject it and you still have to front the court with your reasons for not sitting on any jury.

I myself have done this twice in the past, and because we do not take oaths on the bible, I got a signed Statutory Declaration signed by a JP as to why I couldn't attend, I presented this to the court and the judge obliged stating it was against my beliefs and conscience, I was let of. But not all judges will except it, and you are fined or unless you have a legitimate excuse like work, for example if you have a job and its summer and your work is seasonal you can usually get of.

Or if you have a medical certificate for health or mental issues you can usually get of.

But one still has to front the courts, and it could take days of sitting around waiting to be heard.

JW are not the only group that does not sit on juries, some Muslims don't either, and if they are excused JW can site religious bias if they to are not excused.

So the sister may just have been their to plead her case, or she may just be a newbie, I can't understand why she would think you are allowed as a JW to sit on any Jury.

I know of one sister where they gave her a really bad time, after exhausting all avenues, she was let of on the jury, but was made by the judge to come to the court everyday, she said she took a WT and just read it in front of everyone, this is what she said.

Actually, reporting for jury SELECTION is the law.
If you are dismissed (or smart enough to get yourself dismissed) from having to sit on an actual trial, you are not breaking the law.

JURY DUTY IS NOT THE LAW.
reporting for selection IS.

I have no doubt you have served on many juries.
