Im still not sure why you can't have a beard, Jesus even had one and long hair. What scripture forbids beards and long hair? Any religion that can make you disown your child or die because of no blood transfusion is a cult.

1. It's preaching. Jesus did it. His disciples did it. It's a command from God. Matt 28:19,20 (not control-obedience to God)
2. JW's can read anything they want. Holiday's originate from false religion.(not control-obedience to God)
3. Dressing formal at Gods house shows respect for him.(not control-respect for God)
As far as the kids go, most kids these days have the attention span of a fly, so learning to sit still for an hour and a half is good for them.

but luckily we're not so shallow as to dismiss everything that happened a LONG time ago.
That's funny, because if someone quotes the words of your leaders from past decades you people start squealing like stuck pigs.

Does my not celebrating birthdays bother you that much?
Typical victim mentality ingrained by the Watchtower Society.

I was explaining my reasons why I consider them a cult. They control peoples lives by saying what they can or can not wear all the way to who lives or who dies. You might not be able to see that because you're in a cult. People on the outside have no problems seeing it. That's my opinion on it anyways.

Not if it's a genuine quote, that hasn't been twisted.

I just can't see how a religion can ban a life saving operation. Where does abstaining from blood stop? I eat rare stakes, is that wrong? If a doctor doing surgery on a person gets blood on their hands is that wrong? If God is so stuck on blood laws then wouldn't he get mad if you give some of yours away to be tested by a doctor? He doesn't care if you die so why would he care if you needed your blood tested?

Its a stupid rule to not get a blood transfusion. No one reading the bible would ever think they were wrong unless they were coached to think so by some cult religion.

How does one obey the bible?

It's basically asking us to go in a round room and piss in the corner with all it's contradictions and inconceivable actions.

The entire concept of vicarious atonement is rather shabby.

One must discover that it's a compilation of writings from different people that should have never been placed together in the 4th century as "one book".

Prior to the early church fathers the OT was a separate canon and was that way for hundreds of years.

Imagine if someone took today took the Magna Carta, Hamlet and the Declaration of Independence and slapped them all together claiming it's one single message from the same author. That's what happened in Bithynia with the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek MSS that are now called "the bible".

They left out hundreds of earlier gospels,(Thomas, Q, etc) and eliminated many original canonical works found in the Hebrew (book of Wars, Jasher, etc). The OT even mentions some of these missing books in itself, I forget how the "brothers" explained that one away....

Men wrote it, men invented the God on it's pages, and men are the reason why the world is so fucked up. This is not the work of a woman. If there is a God, it's a man. Only a man could fuck things up this bad....

Good answer, FN. Years ago, I was working with my cousin's wife on a job. It came out that he and I had the same birthdate. I was quite suprised when they bought me a gift. I explained in a nice way, that I don't get into birthdays, but that I really appreciated their thinking that much of me. They seemed to accept it very well.

I would have to assume that NOBODY involved in this party knew I was a Witness.
It would be embarrassing however, I would have no choice at this point. I would explain that I am a Witness and I would explain my stance on birthdays.
I would then open the floor to questions and, at the end, invite them to enjoy the cake and I would leave.
