Iran outraged over Oscar for Argo

There are 17 comments on the www.jihadwatch.org story from Feb 25, 2013, titled Iran outraged over Oscar for Argo. In it, www.jihadwatch.org reports that:

For the second consecutive year many Iranians had good reason to stay up late into the night to watch the Academy Awards ceremony.

Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” which recounts the successful rescue mission of several American diplomats during the 1979 hostage crisis in Tehran, won best picture Sunday night, and Iranian media was quick to react ...

from jihadwatch:

"The elation that followed Iran’s first Oscar victory for the film 'A Separation'... has been pushed aside by what many here see as a politically motivated choice for this year’s best picture winner.

"That perception was re-enforced by the surprise presenter of the award, Michelle Obama. Fars News, Iran’s main hardline outlet, wasted no time in questioning her role, writing,'In a rare occasion in Oscar history, the First Lady announced the winner for Best Picture for the anti-Iran Film ‘Argo,’ which is produced by the Zionist company Warner Bros.'

"Others criticized the way Affleck referred to Islamic Republic in his acceptance speech when he said,'I want to thank our friends in Iran who live under terrible circumstances.' Mehr News ran this headline:'After distorting history, Ben Affleck continues to show a bleak picture of Iran: Iranians live in terrible circumstances.'"

Anyone who lives in an islamic republic lives under "terrible circumstances".

It's good to know that Iran can be wound up so easily.

Keep winding them up in any way possible.

Hi Trisha.
I dont know if you have seen ARGO, but it was BRILLIANT. It shows the iranian scum bags up for the sh*t for brained donkey breeders they truly are. They were so stupid, they couldnt even find the embassy officials - and they hadnt even left the town.
They might be good at screaming 'allu alu akbar' but when it comes to real intelligence, the middle east has lost before the game even starts.

I have not seen it.

I remember the amusing stories by American Pilates who were trying to train the Iranian Air Force. Let's just say this video of American military trying to get Iraqis to do simple calisthenics isn't much different:

No, but I'm definitely going to go and see it after this.

There's a throwaway line in the film that says my country wouldn't help the six, which is a lie.

So I'm going to pirate it.

The problem with films based on history is that they are not documentaries and not held to the same standard for accuracy.

:(

Yet they should at least be held accountable for any clear errors against the facts.

Hi Matey.
It is irritating - but just put it down to Hollywood poetic licence. We know the truth of the matter. We know that the UK did help, and at great risk to themselves. I realise that ANYONE who helped our American allies was taking an equally great risk, so in that regard, the UK was nothing special. As long as the truth is known, thats all that matters. Still a bloody good film!!!!!

Absolutely it sounds like a great film. I heard the BBC Radio 4 documentary on the incident the other day and it brought back some memories.

But the filmmakers lied about the UK, so I'll watch it for free.

What an excellent display of tolerance and normalcy.....I'm sure the west is convinced to reprieve such a stable regime of those unjust economic sanctions. LOL.

PS: Outstanding movie. Ben Affleck is a genius.
