I am an American Christian. I am of an old form of Pentecostalism. My faith is referred to as the holiness movement. We believe that Christians are commanded by God to live a seperated lifestyle from the sinful world.

We believe that women should dress in feminine attire. My wife only wears long modest dresses. We believe that the wearing of makeup is wrong. Women should not cut their hair as short as a mans.

My wife also wears a head covering to show submission to God as her Father and to me as her husband. This is a sign of authority on her head.

Early Jewish and Christian women all wore head coverings. Tertulion was one of the early church fathers and he wrote of the importance of head coverings.

Amish, Mennonite, some Catholic churches and my belief system still practise head coverings. In the past the Puritans, Quakers, Shakers and the Anabaptists also practised this.

I believe that Christians should return to the old ways of our Patriarchs. God does not change with time and neither should we. Morality and modesty is lacking in the lives of many Christians today.

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman [is] man, and the head of Christ [is] God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having [his] head covered, dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with [her] head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have [a symbol of] authority on [her] head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, neither [is] man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman [came] from man, even so man also [comes] through woman; but all things are from God. 13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for [her] hair is given to her for a covering.

Deuteronomy 22:5 " A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so [are] an abomination to the LORD your God.

I agree with you. I remember being a young girl and going to church (United Methodist) wearing a dress. Every Sunday. My father would never stand for his daughters wearing pants to church. Now adays you see woman and men wearing jeans and shorts to church and woman wearing very short skirts to church. Christians I know say they are going to church to worship God, not going to a fashion show. But I think it is so very disrespectful towards God. I commend women of any faith that dress modestly. And men also. Morals have declined so much in this country and the world. Unfortunately, most of these people think they are following cultural norms.(By the way, the most DISGUSTING thing I have ever seen has been department store that sell thong underwear in the girl's department...for little girls!!!)

Hello Zara,

I agree with everything that you are saying. Many people, especially Christians dont understand our beliefs. We are not oppressive toward women at all. We are taught to love, cherish, adore, encourage and defend our wives. The Bible teaches that a man should be willing to give his life for his wife.

I used to think that my current belief system was strange and legalistic. My wife approached me one day and asked me if I would accept her wearing a head covering. I thought this was strange at first. But I prayed about this, and began to research out the Bible and early church traditions. I soon realized how far modern day Christianity had strayed from the truth.

I have been Pentecostal my entire life. But now I have embraced an old form, known as the Holiness movement. This form of Pentecostalism has it's roots in the Holiness Methodist movement of the 1800's.

God Bless You and thank you for sharing your thoughts!

But Jesus had long hair and a beard, shouldn't all men follow his example?

I don't think Jesus wore a hat. But as a christian , I wear sometimes a trilby and others a fedora. Baseball caps are OK as well.

perhaps, yes. This is also more masculine than the modern effeminacy that is shaving the face

melton I applaud you for being true to your faith. I can respect people who are principled and act out of conviction even though their faiths may be different than mine.

many of the people on topix want Muslims to abandon their orthodoxy, partly because they mistakenly blame orthodoxy for many of the social problems in Muslim societies, but also because they have abandoned their own practice of Christianity to make way for an "anything-goes" reading of the Bible to accomodate an increasingly hedonistic, amoral and materialistic society.

stay with your quest for the divine truth. God will not lead anybody astray who wants the truth.

I want to thank you all for your kindnesses shown in this thread. I have avoided this forum due to the outbursts of hatred which have grieved my heart too much. I am Melton's wife, Kim.
Pleasure to meet each of you!

Actually, I have not seen scripture which depicts the length of Jesus' hair. If I'm wrong on this one, then somebody can correct me. He did have a beard, we have the prophecy in (I think) either Isaiah or the Psalms, possibly both, which describe Jesus' beard being ripped from his face. That must have been exceptionally painful.

I fail to see why you introduced this topic on the Islam forum. Are you saying that there is much similarity between Christianity and Islam since the first century church practiced women covering their heads while meeting in church? That's absurd. The two faiths are opposites.
