We rarely mention alcoholic beverages and achievement in the same breath. The picture of a rosy-cheeked old soul propping up the bar with beer in hand speaks more to being idle than to being industrious. But the truth is that the birth of civilisation itself needs to give potable liquor a wee tip o' the hat.

So to give credit where credit is due, I'm going to attempt to outline some of alcohol's more notable achievements. Maybe after a read you can raise a glass to, well, raising the glass.
