Perhaps we should classify what muslim do as different from real "prayer"

Us infidels tend to assume that muslim prayer is similar to christian prayer, it isn't. It actually a group of set mantras, the effect of which is self hypnosis and programming your self into doing what some imam demands.
Imagine the effect of endlessly repeating "mo is allah's agent, I must do whatever mo demands because mo is speaking for god. I must not question mo because mo is god's agent"

Islamic prayer is NOT brainwashing- or set of "mantras". It is a consistent reminder to man about his relationship with his Creator. It is kind of a "meeting" with God- of course not everyone praying attains that status, only those who follow the true spirit. The most important prayer within the salat is the opening Surah, Fateha- and the salat is focused on the praise of God- not Muhammad (pbuh). The mentions of Muhammad (PBUH) is only in the form of prayer and blessings on him and his followers- and he truly deserves it, as he is the one God bestowed upon this reward.

But you are right in saying Islamic prayer is not like Christian prayer- and I am glad it isn't.

Oh yeah - wanna bet?
Here, I'll prove it.
I want you to say this prayer this way:
Raise both of your hands next to each ears. Touch the lobes of your each ear with thumbs. Then say "WARRIOR Hoo Akbar"
Now, holding the left hand with the right hand on top and recite these words:
"In the Name of WARRIOR, The Gracious, The Merciful. Praise be to WARRIOR, WARRIOR of the Worlds; Most Gracious, Most Merciful; Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone I worship, and you alone I ask for help. Guide me to the straight path, the path of those on whom you have blessed, not of those who have deserved wrath, And nor of the strayers."
Now bow and say: "Glorified is my WARRIOR, the Great"
We'll see how brain-washed you are in say, 30 or 40 years...

1 TIMOTHY 4

'4 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.'

You poor minded Muslim.
You accept the false hoods of Mohammed as truth.
Gods Holy Bible is not in the Quran.
That is a truth.

The Holy Bible is the beginning of Gods word and ends in the Book of revelation.
The Koran does not begin nor end at revelation.

The Koran starts from an unknown spirit that supposedly gave Mohammed revelation from an unknown god, that contradicts Gods Holy Bible.

The problem Rabbeen, is that Muslims did not have Gods Holy Bible as their religion before Mohammed came on the scene.

There are no Muslim prophets in Gods Holy Bible that brings the prophecy
of Mohammed to light as a coming prophet.

All of Gods prophets in Gods Holy Bible are Jews.
The Apostles in the NT are Jews that worshiped God out of the scripture of Gods Holy Bible.

These are truths that Mohammed and all Muslims deny.

To be truthful Rabbeen, Muslims are insanely corrupted by their insane prophet Mohammed that worshiped the pagan Arab God called Allah all his life.

Hello.

But can you please tell me what is the idea and the effect of prayers in Islam? The Quran several places clearly states that Allah predestines every detail of your life - Hadiths (al-Bukhari) even tell he desides whether you are to end in Hell or in Heaven 5 months before you are born - and that he desides it according to his great plan which nobody and nothing can change. This means that also prayers can change nothing of what he has predestined.

And what mission has then a prayer when it cannot have any effect?

Salaamz Wokky LOL! Opinions are great, but still, they are only opinions. The true facts you completely ignore, for you have a hidden agenda. An agenda of denigration for anything muslim. So even as you are exposed you deny truth and replace it with lie. To say such dark things of the Holy-Messenger Muhammad(pbuh) is to denigrate all of the Almighty,s prophets(pbut). That cannot bode well for you in the eyes of the Creator. But then you are not really a believer either! LOL! for if you were, such nonsense would never leave your lips! ALLAHu-Akhbarr! & Cheerz

Glad that someone is at least speaking logically here- rather than just bshit & slander

I don't have the Hadith you are quoting, but I do know of several Quranic verses that are presented by anti-Islamists that appear to describe the concept of pre-destination. Even a few Muslims, notably the Sufis, have adopted this idea. But this is a false understanding. In order to understand Quran, you have to read the whole of it- not concentrate on bits & pieces. And the most notable conjunction with respect to human beings is that those who beileve and do good deeds will definitely be rewarded accordingly. So the verses of the kind of "He forgives whomsoever He wants and punishes whomsoever He wants" (like 2:284) should be understood more cautiously. One evident meaning is, and thats how I understand it, that God can punish or reward anyone as and how He wants- that is, there is NOTHING STOPPING HIM from doing it. So this narration is about the POWER of God, not about pre-destination. Who pleases Him and who doesn't, is a separate issue and explained elsewhere abundantly

If they are "bullshit", why do you quote them when you seem to think they favor you?

BTW, the night journey was a spiritual vision of the highest order- nothing physical about it
