Veiled Barbies for Prophet's birthday

There are 8 comments on the www.albawaba.com story from Jan 28, 2013, titled Veiled Barbies for Prophet's birthday. In it, www.albawaba.com reports that:

Though the Saudi religious establishment may consider it an "invention", the Prophet's birthday is celebrated by many Muslims and is a public holiday in countries like Egypt and Algeria ...

Traditionally, people buy dolls that are dressed elaborately in dresses of all shapes and colours to either liven up their homes or as gifts for girls ... Fulla is a veiled version of Barbie that conveys different beauty standards to young girls ...

from albawaba:

"This year, a new modified doll hit the streets: veiled, dressed modestly and donning slightly less flashy dresses, though still colourful by most standards.

"The new doll was an immediate success in Egyptian markets but was the subject of much humour online ... One Twitter user sarcastically wondered,'Is it religiously allowed to buy a non-veiled doll for the ProphetÂ’s birthday? What is the fatwa on this ...'

"Others said that the next step was for the doll to 'stay at home' as she retreats on a path of righteousness. The sarcastic tone may have provided entertainment for many, but for others the emergence of the doll created a bigger question: has Egyptian culture changed to the point where dolls are covered up to reflect it?"

It's good to see that the dolls havn't been "sexualized" as is the case in the USA.

Tom, if these dolls were anatomically correct, muslims would perform FGM on them!

These dolls are available with accessories at the Riyadh Walmart. Among them, the classic Malibu Barbie Jeep in hot pink and laden with explosives for those nights when muslim Ken and Barbie go embassy hopping.

Now even female toys have to be veiled. Muslim men cannot control their lust for barbies. LOL
