Of important note, Abbas Ibn Firnas was not a "Muslim scholar" writing meaningless interpretations (Hadiths) of the qur'an.
This speaks volumes in that he "distanced" himself from religion.

With regard to the statement that he was a pioneer of flight, this is a ridiculous statement as it is said he jumped off a tower with stiff leather "wings" sustaining minor injuries.
