I took my daughter, who is part Chinese, along with her 1st generation Chinese grandmother to see Shen Yun and I wish that I hadn't been sucked into the marketing. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. Tickets were over $200 each which is ridiculous enough, but most importantly, this is nothing more than a political agenda cast under a clever marketing campaign. It touts 5,000 years of Chinese history...BULL!

This is about shedding the Western spotlight on the Falun Gong movement. That's fine...I'm no fan of Communism or human rights abuses, but let's just call it what it is.

While all the talk is about the dancing, there are 3 (unpromoted) solo vocals during the show that are definite downers and totally wrapped in the religion with continual references to the "Devine" and "Creator". There are also multiple scenes (3 I think) where banners are shown that say "Falun Gong is Good." It was weird and had the feeling of a cult trying to conduct mass brainwashing and lulling people in with a couple of ancient Chinese fables, eye-candy costumes and dance movements.

They have done an amazing job marketing this thing and really touting a few beautiful segments of the performance, but the overall dance routines were very repetitive, the graphics were a little cheesey and there was hardly a reflection of the 5,000 years of Chinese history.

Since going to the show I've looked around a bit and there seems to be lots of controversy about the Falun Gong group's funding -- including allegations of CIA involvement. I was so very interested in sharing a Chinese cultural experience with my daughter. Now all I feel is that I was duped into contributing to someone's political agenda -- the rest of the attending public should too!
