This show was a huge disappointment and let down. While the dance choreography and costumes were nice, my husband and I really did not appreciate the underlying theme of propaganda for the Falun Gong. The show advertised as "Reviving 5000 years of civilization" but it's true intention is to promote 'Falun Dafa' and the attacks from China government. It is as authentically Chinese as your local Chinese take-out place is for real Chinese food(P;S I am Chinese origin, this show does not give you a tiny glimpse of 5000 years of civilization )
As we walked out of the theatre following behind a group of Chinese audience, I can tell many of us felt cheated and greatly disappointed by the "Chinese culture element" and did not impressed by the dance performance at all. I felt they are taking advantage from the westerner audiences who are genuinely curious about the culture and ripped off those pensioner's money.
Moreover, the dance pieces were almost hard to distinguish, and after about the 5th or 6th piece, I felt like i was watching an endless replay only differentiated by the costumes changes. Another disappointments was there isn't any advertisements about solo singing pieces and yet the show had 4 singing pieces which again attempt to promote their religious and political agenda.Eg,The message from Divine, bla bla...
The show is Falun Gong propaganda, simple as that, and it appears in many pieces very heavy-handed throughout the show. At least three (nearly identical dance sets portraying the brutal treatment of Falun Gong followers in mainlaind China. We felt duped when we realized the real purpose of the show,is like being invited to a friend's party only to learn they want to convert you to their religion/marketing seminar.
Personally, I have nothing against the religion, but to advertise this production as being a collage of Chinese culture over thousands of years and it really smells of false advertising
I would not recommend this show to others. I only wish I'd read user reviews before buying tickets, as nowhere in their materials or in the mainstream media promotions do you see a mention of Falun Gong. And now I realised why there wasn't many Chinese audience and all the organization representatives selectively entertain only westerner.
I would rate it as 1 star on principle alone. This is NOT a cheap show, and I do not want religion forced in my face when I'm the one who paid for $300 in total and was not adequately informed that this would be the primary reason for the show's existence.
So if you get a cheap or free seats, and lower your expectations and sift through the propaganda...it's okay.
The best tickets in the house should have been no more than $50.
I'VE TAKEN 30 MINUTES TO TYPE THIS COMMENT PURELY BECAUSE I DONT WANT ANYMORE INNOCENT MONEY WASTED ON FALUN BUDDHA SOCIETY.I AM SURE YOU RATHER GIVE A HUGE DONATION TO HONEST PERFORMERS THAT PRESENT HONEST ,PROFESSIONAL CULTURAL DANCE.
