A group described as "pro-Communist" by the Falun Gong tabloid Epoch Times gathered for a rally on Monday and marched from North Point to government headquarters in Admiralty to denounce what they call a cult.
About 100 members of the Hong Kong Youth Care Association paraded down the streets in lime-green T-shirts, shouting "Eliminate Falun Gong" and "Celebrate Mid-autumn, Welcome National Day".
The purpose of the rally was to counteract Falun Gong’s anti-Communist protest also on Monday, said a member who was wearing a "supervisor" badge.
"National Day should be a festive occasion, yet the Falun Gong members are ruining it by throwing alleged insults at the Communist Party. Participants today are all volunteers," he said.
When asked for more information about the group, he said: "We want to promote the right values to young people in Hong Kong. Falun Gong is a cult, and we want people to stay away from it." Falun Gong is a spiritual movement that is banned on the mainland.
Ma (in video above), a rally participant who only gave her last name, said: "I was dragged here by a friend, and I have no idea what the rally is about. I came here for fun. It’s like a one-day tour of Hong Kong."
