RI Bishop Cites Evidence for Marriage Equality?

Feb 5, 2013 Full story: www.virtueonline.org 45

Religious figures most often extract from their faith when speaking for or against marriage equality. Their spiritual life either confirms or condemns equality.

Bishop Nick Knisely, the Episcopal Bishop for Rhode Island, bucked that trend recently by citing both faith and science when he declared his support for marriage equality ... Full Story

KNISELY: I have seen what St. Paul describes as the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) in the married lives of two men and of two women ... Jesus tells us that we must test each tree by looking at the goodness of its fruit (Luke 6:43-45). Across our congregations and communities, I can see the goodness of gay and lesbian couples and their families.

VOL: This is a complete misuse and shameless interpretation of St. Paul's description of the "fruit of the Spirit" ...

First of all this interpretation of "fruit" was never uttered in the context of homoerotic relationships ...

There is no parsing of these Scriptures that lends any legitimacy to men and women living in same-sex relationships. Furthermore, there is not a single verse(s) of Scripture from Leviticus to St. Paul that upholds sodomy in any kind of relationship, committed or uncommitted ...

Thanks for the thread and your post of quotes from the VOL article, Joe.

Even though VOL is an opinionated source, assuredly anti-TEC, you have managed to present the basis for opposing views from the article.

Thus, conversation is allowed and fostered.

My fellow [TEC] disciples in Christ are encouraged to comment upon the view offered by the Bishop.

Every church/religion professes to be the "true" church/religion. Guess who gets to make the judgements...not you. Only God. So don't you think you should err on the side of love, charity and tolerance...you know...just in case.

Love isn't license; love has boundaries, license doesn't.

THAT is NOT what Paul says in Corinthians...you would know that if you ever attended church. It was the Lectionary reading last week.

Love is God, Love is from God and He needs no license, although I'm sure you'd love to limit Him on WHOM He loves and explain to Him why He shouldn't love those YOU hate.

Good luck with that.

Perverted deviant lust is not and never will be love. Jesus Himself destroyed Sodom for it's abomination and perverted lust.

I thought you all didn't like Paul. I guess you like him only when he supports your weak argument.

For homework, read Romans Chapter 1.

Question, does your love, charity and tolerance extend to those who would leave TEC? Does it extend to those who disagree with you?

Please read this TA....IT MIGHT SAVE YOUR SOUL.
Why is that? All paths lead to the same place! God loves us all unconditionally and would never leave any to perish! Save one's soul? Gee - TA, Joe, WOT or I could save ourselves? Who needs Jesus when we have you and your recommendations?

Funny you should write that, George.

It is you and Wot and TA and Joe who are always making YOUR recommendations to others, based upon YOUR interpretations of scripture and which passages are or are not to be followed.

Do you know what it is to be reborn in the Spirit, George? Or are you just guessing?

Nicodemus had spent his entire life studying and working in the well-known religious practices of his society, successfully taking a place of authority and power. Yet, he knew he was missing something and came to Jesus, personally, in relative secrecy to find it.

Let's speculate together for a moment. You and I both claim to be disciples of Christ Jesus. If I were to tell you that I have been reborn in the Spirit, George, would you believe me?

Before you reply, I will answer that I don't think you would believe me. Why is that, George?

You are absolutely right that I would not believe you since I don't believe that anyone reborn in the Spirit could so flatly reject God's revelation in Scripture. Not everyone who cries Lord, Lord.........

I will ask you the same question.

If I were to tell you that I have been reborn in the Spirit, TA,
would you believe me?

Before you reply, I will answer that I don't think you would believe me.

Why is that, TA?

He said to them, "You examine the face of heaven and earth, but you have not come to know the one who is in your presence, and you do not know how to examine the present moment."
