Religion roundtable: If the only way to salvation is through Christ,...

Religion roundtable: If the only way to salvation is through Christ, what about Moses or Noah, who died before he was born? Don't put God in a box I'm often asked about who is and who isn't getting into heaven.

"I’m often asked about who is and who isn’t getting into heaven. Like most questions pastors get while shaking hands after services, the question often is about something else."

"...some people ask because they’re confident about themselves but are curious about the other, the losing side. Who’s in the pit? Jews? Muslims? Mormons? It’s not about me and my relationship with Christ, but about others and their fate. It’s less about theology and more about gossip."

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..........

A box small enough to hold a book which is perfect in all ways and THE WORD OF GOD!!

From the article:

The presiding bishop of my denomination rubbed some the wrong way on this question. She said that Christ is the name given us for our salvation.“But for us to assume that God could not act in other ways is, I think, to put God in an awfully small box.”

Moses and Noah were saved through faith in God's promise of a Savior in the future. We are saved through faith in the Savior who came according to God's promise in the past. All believers, whether they lived before Jesus was born, while Jesus lived on earth, or after Jesus ascended to heaven are saved through faith in the Promised Savior.

If there is a small box around God, it is because he put in there himself. No one put it there for him.

We do not deal with or put our hope in what God could have said and done but in what he has said and done.

Deuternonomy 29:29 says it best, "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but those things are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever." God's secrets are God's secrets and we would be foolish to venture a guess as to what they are. That is why we will with what God has revealed about himself on the pages of the Bible. Those truths belong to us and our children forever.

WILKEN: The passage that I guess I go to repeatedly in taking that position is to Jesus, Himself, where He says:'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me.'[John 14:6] Jesus is claiming to be the ONLY revelation of God; the ONLY revelation of the sacred in His Incarnation; and most certainly, the ONLY way to the True God. What are your thoughts there?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: He also says in another place [John 10:16] that He has flocks, that He is called to care for flocks – sheep that aren’t already in a particular fold, and that He has words of truth for them as well.

WILKEN: So what do you think He is referring to there, specifically?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: I think He is referring to people beyond our comfort zone.

WILKEN: Beyond Christianity?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: Could be…

WILKEN: Well, do you think it is beyond Christianity?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: I think the work of Jesus has changed reality for all human beings whether they acknowledge themselves Christians or not.

So, was PB Kate Schori's final response a yes, or a no?

In John 14:1-2, Jesus is addressing His own disciples, not Buddhists and Muslims.
"... ye believe in God, believe also in Me."

You mean we have more than one tree?

More than one picture of the sunset?

Not all snowflakes are exactly a like?

And here I thought only Muslims and Mormons claimed the Bible was mistranslated whenever they disagree with it.

LOL!

Of course, since you are a roman and there began the history of write ins, add ins, revising, modernizing, etc. etc. ot
s no suprise.

But you think God lives in a book and that Jesus is still hanging on the cross until you cannibalize him, of course......

Uh huh, you've never seen a revised condensed modernized paraphrased, etc. Bible.

God sits on his cloudy desk and writes them all because that's His only way of communicating.

LOL.....
