Is Someone You Know in a Cult?

Mar 4, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Gilmer Mirror

These days, many are apt to describe believers as one big community of faith, but the fact remains that there are very important differences among various belief systems, says Richard E. Kelly, a self-described "survivor" of Jehovah's Witnesses.

• Certainty that the world will end in one’s lifetime: This is a crucial pill to swallow for a subsequent list of cult beliefs, which keep followers in a perpetual state of fear. If only one holds true enough to a strict set of rules – like avoiding pledges of allegiance at school, for example – then they may be spared at Armageddon.

• Social manipulation: For Jehovah’s Witnesses who are not observant of all rules, ostracism and shunning is used. How to handle someone who questions policy? Make sure their family ignores them!

• Cripple half of the members (women): For Jehovah’s Witnesses, women are seen as creatures trapped somewhere between men and animals in God’s hierarchy. No woman can have a position of authority, which means it's men only for preaching, teaching and praying. If there’s an official meeting and a woman prays she must cover her head out of respect for the angels who might be there.

• Scorning education: Who needs advanced learning when the world is sure to end in a few short years? Kelly’s sister, Marilyn, had very little education, so when she was finally able to leave home, she had few coping skills. She ultimately met an abusive third husband, who later murdered her.

• Sexually repressive: Jehovah’s Witnesses are thoroughly indoctrinated in how to harness the power of the sex drive to please God. It’s obsessive compulsive when it comes to creating rules about sexual do's and don’ts, from masturbation to the role of women; from conception to sexual pleasure. Sex before marriage is an onerous crime, punishable by shunning and death at Armageddon.

Very helpful
Most people do NOT realize about Jehovah's witnesses, especially the restrictions on women and education and the weird sexual obsessions.

Being a disciple of Jesus is not easy with or without an education. You must know and understand the requirements that Jesus laid out before anyone who wants to imitate him and have God's approval for life, as Jesus was Jehovah's witness. Revelation 1:5

Being a true Christian today is all a matter of love for Jehovah God, the one true God of Moses and Abraham and Jesus and the many other faithful servants and prophets of God. If you do not love Jehovah God with your whole strength and life, you will not serve him with your whole soul as Jesus did. Matthew 22:37-39

The true religion that God approves of is obedient to his word and the instructions of Jesus, since Jesus is now reigning as Sovereign King over this earth, and his subjects are loyal and obedient they are hated and no part of this world, as Jesus was.
John 15:10 John 3:36

The thousands of people every year, who want to be Jehovah's witnesses and fail, do not fail because they do not love God, they fail because they love this world more, and can't give it up.
Matthew 10:38

All of those points are very valid, but JWs will always try to twist the reality of the cult indicators to "prove" that all of these ridiculous restrictions and rules mark them as the only true Christians.

More practical real world advice:

Dreams you have early this morning may help you tap into your intuition. Write down anything you remember and share it with a close friend. Your connection with a sibling or neighbor is strong now, giving you the opportunity to share. Now that aggressive Mars is under attack, you may need to talk about the current pressures in your life.

RE: Is Someone You Know in a Cult?
..... True Christian witness wrote, in par: "The thousands of people every year, who want to be Jehovah's witnesses and fail, do not fail because they do not love God, they fail because they love this world more, and can't give it up."
..... Very likely True Christian witness him/herself is also still in this world.
..... In Jesus' time there were separate from the normal communities, called "the world". as in worldly, artificial "families" under the umbrella name "The Kingdom of God" which modern churches should also be like, but aren't. They were what these days are called "intentional communities" whose members had pooled their properties per Acts 2 and Acts 4; as individuals they had no money, nor did they need any, similarly as we didn't while we were young, with all our needs provided to us then for free. Outsiders called them "The Poor".
..... Obviously these days there would have to be a continual charitable money and goods input for such intentional communities to be viable over the long run, in addition to what the community could earn by selling (whatever) to "the world", the result of the members'(hard?) work. Check out what the various listed intentional communities are doing in 2013 and compare that with the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus.

To be no part of this world is not what most Church Christians think, they think you should not get drunk or go to bars or swear or fight with your wife or children or whatever they consider unchristian conduct.

Those are given things any Christian would not do in imitation of Jesus and God's word the Bible. John 3:36

To be no part of this world as Jesus taught John 15:19, means that you would be separate from all governments or Kingdoms and their politics, wars and organizations.
You would also be no part of the entertainment of this world, that means you would be selective about what you do for a living and what you read, watch or desire.
True Christians must be clean, wholesome and true, not violent or immoral, that would include video games and music or any site on the internet.

Also a true Christian would be no part of this world's religions or have any affiliations with them, they are not acceptable to Jehovah God or our reigning King Jesus. They teach man made doctrines that are not in the Bible. Matthew 15:9

Jehovah's witnesses are the only religion that meets the requirements for being no part of this world, and are the only people who try to live as true Christians.

"A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people." - from the book 'Reasoning from scriptures'- published by JWs

As mentioned above JWs do not follow any religious leaders. There system does not want rituals like those people in Catholicism, Hinduism or Islam do. They don't follow a living leader (like pope for Catholics). What is wrong with an organization emphasizing to leave according to Bible principles like avoid adultery, murder, associate with God loving people, avoid homosexuality, avoid war, abstain from blood, love one another, love neighbor? Unlike many world religious leaders JWs have over 80,000 unpaid shepherds (including Governing body members). I understand self decided ex-JWs are mad and rather jealous about their lost privileges or things that wanted to be done from their perspective. I would say to them just continue your business rather than wasting half of your life trying to preach lies on the internet. Remember, for the last 100 years there were people like you dreaming to destroy the integrity of this religion. What happened? They just keep dreaming and continue dreaming till death. Wise quote of an ancient man says "If this is of something from man it will not prevail, but if from God nobody can do anything".

Jehovah's witnesses DO NOT adhere to the Bible, but do adhere to the made up dogma of the watchtower society,, which is their cult leadership!

I know you don't want to talk about all their false prophecy, but you can't erase what they have printed, no matter how you try and hand wave it away with your delusions!
