Because AGW has two problems in terms of arrousing public perceptions.

1: it is a slow motion catastrophe. People react to immediate threats much more urgently than to long term ones.

2: There is no 'critical threashold' established. While some groups have 'picked' 350ppm or 400ppm or 450ppm, none of them have crediblity as a real crisis point.

Since no catastrophic events happened when the CO2 value hit 400ppm, because the temperatures have not risen with the CO2 values, it's no surprise that the media and the AGW scientists would let this one go by without much fanfare.

I can't speak for Canada but the US opinion is changing fast as tornadoes keep on busting up lives and property following the hurricane Sandy in the past six months.

Of course, calamities matter. As a minimum, they remind people how awful climate can turn on you.

When the movie starts, people want a resolution of the movie, 2 hours later. Three hours usually is too long. Ben Hur length movies are just too long.

People have extended work to do to stay alive, since the toxic upper crust managerial paper pushers & people shovers take the wealth of companies in 100 million dollar bonus, retirement & stock option packages.

But, the worst causative factor for lethargy to their own effect on planet Earth, is people's lack of science, chemistry, astronomy, physics, algebra & pre-calc in their poorly earned hi skule DEE-plooomaas, which is so often the case with toxic topix AGW deniers. I always wondered why so many kids I grew up with, had a lack of interest in science.

Just examine the poll on whether schools should be 'privatized', I.e you get the education your parents can afford.

Even the pro public education posts tend to have about five spelling mistakes per comment. It is a SAD commentary on what is wrong with US PUBLIC education, but privatizing it will NOT fix the problem. It will just increase it as the private school system looks for profits instead of performance. i.e. as long as public education is a RIGHT (not to mention a requirement), it has to be provided by the government. But it should be funded as a proportion to the funding of private schools. SOME sort of fundametnal metric has to be in place to ensure that they aren't starved for funding to satisfy 'no taxes' tea partiers.
