Before someone takes this the wrong way (which I'm sure someone will regardless of what I say), let me say there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation, but nevertheless I do have to ask the question: Ms. Anderson stated, "I became disabled and can't work any more, and my family is in a house we're about to lose. It's a bad situation,". What disability prevents her from working, but allows her to walk "several miles" to the Church, and then several miles back while carrying a box of food? It seems to me that the task of walking to the church and back with a box full of food would be more physical activity than is required at some jobs. For instance, an office receptionist, or working at a collections call center (both of which have current openings in the Vallejo area on Craig's List). I am not making any attempt to demean Ms. Anderson, just trying to understand her situation. I also am permanently disabled to the point where I could not walk several miles, and qualified for Social Security Disability, but declined it and found an industry that has allowed me to continue to work. Thank you.

I'd love to help some to Planned Parenthood.
I agree, someone who can walk miles and carry back groceries, is probably not all that disabled and it really isn't too smart of this newspaper or her for announcing it in the newspaper.
I am wondering, however, where her grown children are, and why they are not helping, even if it is to walk several miles and carry back the food.
And, the cycle continues.

I've noticed a lot of lazy reporting from this particular writer. I understand the TH is shorthanded, but come on. Put some effort into it. I understand the issue with the economy, but how have the needs grown? How can a person help? Anyone have more info than just scratching the surface like this story, please?

And the reason for this article is????????
I am sure they are trying to bump up donations.
Poor thing. Imagine...disabled with two children walking all that way just for food!
Perfect "story" line to grab readers tear ducts, and pocketbooks.
Ho-Hum. So you are poor? So am I.
So are a lot of people.
What else is new?
*I guess not having a shooting every day in V town makes for hard pickings for stories TH???*

You may be right. She maybe taking a shortcut to take care of herself and family. The article stated that she is getting counseling and I hope that will be addressed if that is the case. However, in the meantime, should her children suffer because we closed our bowels of compassion? They are in essence at her mercy to supply for them the necessities of life. If you cannot support her, then support her children who need your help.
