I agree that there is comfort in believing that your soul survives death, but the cold hard truth is that when your brain is destroyed so are your thoughts, feelings, and memories.

What good is a soul that survives death but can;t think or feel or recall anything?

So please, continue to dwell in your delusions if it gives you comfort., If your faith makes you a good person then by all means continue to believe it.

But don't assume that atheists cannot or do not live rich, rewarding, ;loving, fulfilling lives.

In fact, I think my life is way better than yours, for the simple reason that anything that is finite is more precious than something that is infinite.

What's more valuable, sand or diamonds? There is a nearly endless supply of sand, but diamonds are very hard to come by. If diamonds were a dime a dozen they'd be... well, they'd cost less than a penny each!

My life is more valuable precisely because one day I know it will end and that will be that. That's a very sobering thought, and that's why I do what I do (I would tell you what I do for a living, but then I'd be easy to find and I wish to remain anonymous.)

Suffice it to say that I've already achieved immortality, of sorts: I've created life which means my DNA will survive my physical death, and my name is attached to certain things that will probably be around for at least a few more generations. As long as cable shows reruns and as long as music is available for digital download, I'll still be singing and dancing even after my body has turned to worm fodder.

But again, it is what it is. If you;re a good person and tolerant of others, that's very cool by me. But if you're the sort who hates gays and doesn't want to give them the legal means to marry because your religion or faith or belief system tells you it's wrong, then you're not cool in the least.

Religion and faith should inform your thought about death, not about how to interfere with others lives. If you believe that your God is the ultimate judge, then i say live and let live. If he gets pissed off to the point where he wants to do something about it, then he has my permission to do so.

Otherwise...

Jesus said " I am the life and the resurrection'

he didn't say he was the life.and resurrection, and he didn't say he will be the life and resurrection

He said " I AM the life and the resurrection'

So he is either lying or telling the truth...

So I believe its worth taking the risk ..like Peter and stepping out of the comfort and safety of the boat..and like peter , take that step of faith..

Okay, now it is Monday, so they start looking towards the same for next weekend. Except for their jobs, boring, their lives are boring.
Now, think about the evolution atheist idea, humans have been doing this for what 150,000 years or 200 million in some species form.
What happens to you when you die? Well, no, not your corpse, but you, the brain, feeling and heart part of you.
If you say it becomes energy, then you are saying that this process will never end.
If you say that it finds a new body, then you are saying that this process will never end.
if so, then evolution is not very orderly, because you get 73 to 87 years if you are lucky. Some only get 2 years, some 20 years, some only 30 years, then what?
What is your purpose and why are you here?
No, I never meant why are you in the Christian Forum, although the answers are likely the same.
"What is your purpose and why are you here?"
Simple, that.
To serve God and make life better for mankind.

Why are we here? Chance.

What is our purpose? It's up to us to give our own purpose to life.

To which I replied - "Chance". AFAIAC we are all here by chance.

In other words, I don't believe there is any ultimate purpose for us being here. If we want purpose and reason we have to assign it ourselves.

Lots of saviors said that they were the path to salvation, but you never acknowledge any of them. Why not?

There really is no risk at all in choosing one over the other, because there is no such thing as salvation.

The soul doesn't exist, and even if it did it would be incapable of feeling, thinking, or remembering anything since all those things happen in the brain.

But hey, you want to go through life harboring a delusion, be my guest.

As long as you let everyone else harbor their own delusions and stop telling people how to live their lives, that's fine.

If we knew the purpose of the universe we might be able to figure out what our place in it is; but we don’t. I have to seriously doubt that this unimaginably vast universe was created simply for us.

I hate to be the one to break the news to you but your brain does not survive death it decays just like every other part of your body. I think Carl Sagan put it very well…

"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.…Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides."

Somber into work? Someone might be somber, but they don't somber. Now they could samba into work... they could even salsa (n)...but no one sombers.

Me thinks Mr Wilde would not have made such a dumb mistake.

1. If I die out in an open field, or in the water, I will become energy...as I will be food for other creatures. But I will not just go Poof! and become energy. No one with a decent education would think such things.

2. More idiotic religious BS.

3. 1 and 2 do not lead us to #3. Why did you make such a stupid leap and connect these...?

Who said Evo was orderly (tidy and fastidious) or even very efficient...?

Whats YOUR purpose? To propose silly notions and ideas while acting like they are insightful?

When it comes to ideas I'll take an Evo, and/or atheist idea over the silliness of Religious ideas. Serving super-beings with arcane ways to worship, being blamed for their shortcomings, and being made to suffer for Super beings shortcomings...

Boy oh boy, but that's a sensible idea. Not!
