There is no "mysterious" and "invisible" force at work. Just a set of instructions to control an operation or interaction. Input and output; It is simple.
To those who are not initiated, computer science may seem like magic... And it really is, in a way, just not in the supernatural sense.

Me too! What's your language of choice?
Depends on what I am coding. However, I have been getting into JAVA a lot here lately.

If I had to chose a favorite it would be VB just because of its ease of use and coding to compile time is much faster.

Almost all programming languages still have their uses, most have been designed around a particular type of application.

OK... so follow that line of logic.

If we do not understand how something works.... why is it attributed automatically to an invisible man in the sky?

Why must ignorance about something always lead to the conclusion "goddidit"?

Going from "I don't know" to "goddidit" is a jump of willful ignorance.

I have to disagree that ignorance ALWAYS leads to the answer that "God did it". Also, in many people of faith, there's not an automatic attribution to God. Fair enough though... When you're looking at life through a spiritual lens, you're more apt to see spiritual things... Same thing with a materialistic lens. It's mostly about perspectives. It's useful to be able to shift perspectives from time to time, and lots of people have trouble with that.

Java... The stalwart language of enterprise systems! I've been playing with Java through a new-ish functional programming language called clojure. It's pretty cool and mind blowing but requires a shift in the way you think about programming if you're used to imperative languages like VB. Other than that, i'm a web developer and Ruby is my weapon of choice.

It is not an "effect". It is something you SEE with your EYES.

You are mistaken.
Seeing digital info displayed is precisely an 'effect', affecting one's eyes and hopefully their mind.

You're not real swift on the pick up.....Are you?

The digital information IS invisible till it makes it's effects on a crt, laptop, some other display screen or other translator.
That's exactly what I Have been saying to you.

No, you have to take it on faith, there is no form or fashion to describe your god. even the buybull claims he "works in mysterious ways"

I believe you have now bit off more than you can chew.

And because you have no proof for your god, instructions are irrelevant. You are not the only follower of a deity because of a "holy book" of one fashion or another.

Just don't junior, this has nothing about pride, it is about common sense.

There is nothing prideful about not believing in invisible things. If you turn this around, you are prideful for not believing in Thor or Mithra. There is no logic behind your statement.

I am late on this thread but here are my thoughts... Spiritual things are subjective, and shouldn't be measured on an objective scale as material things are.
Is God a real, material thing? I've never seen, heard, or touched God, but I believe that God exists in my heart... I know that when I pray for peace, I get peace. When I pray for happiness, I get happiness, and when I pray that God gives me a gentle spirit, I receive it... Maybe it's all in my head, maybe it's not... All I know is that I do it, and it works.
it takes "faith" to believe in God, and you must believe that he
exists in order to pray to him. Do you believe that Moses actually saw God's back parts? I Do ! Moses was a great man of faith & God used him mightily didn't he? You may never have seen God, or touched him. When he speaks, it is a soft whisper, that little voice that lets you know right from wrong. You can sense in your spirit when he is near, just like you can tell in the spirit when evil is present. The Holy Ghost does wonders.
maybe you should check your faith department out and perform a 20 question faith test LOL

And yet the bible says that no man has seen god.

So maybe you should ask if your faith is overwriting your commons sense and logic.

Perhaps you should take a logic test?

Yes, can you see a patter of events that happened when people started looking for answers to the universe and the invention of the telescope took us from everything revolving around us the reality that we are just a pale blue dot, a spec of dusts in the vastness of the universe.

Our knowledge expansion is due to science, not because someone foretold it.

Is it not correct to think that as a species grows and evolves, that the knowledge attained is usually passed on to the next generation?

Saying something silly like "knowledge shall increase" is about as ignorant of a statement that anyone can make to prove anything.

The growth of knowledge is what happens in a free secular society such as we have now.

The only proof you have that digital information exists is by the effect it has on a particular display gadget.

Just as those in the know can see God by the effects God displays in persons or situations.

It is probable that Mithra and Thor existed, BUT...salvation does not come through them.
Salvation is through Jesus Christ.

This is human logic

But Christians are promised

John 14 [21] He that has my commandments and observes them , that one loves me.

in turn he that loves me will be loved by the Father , and I will love him ...AND PLAINLY SHOW MYSELF to him'

So Jesus does not show himself to everyone..so this guy can argue until his blue in the face..and no one will prove anything to him

But to those who love Jesus OBEY HIS COMMANDMENTS..well he shows himself to us..and we can't give what we have had shown to us to someone else ..because its private for those who love Jesus..so let the fellow go...

Your argument is that data is invisible because it is on the media (HDD, Floppy, CDs, Tape, etc) and not the screen.

That is like saying clothes are invisible because they are in your suitcase, dresser or closet.

Your argument is stupid. You do not see god. Stop comparing the two. It is not even apples and oranges, it is more like apples and space ships.

Good grief man, I do this for a living.

Yes, I suppose if you take all the people that know how to code and use it, destroy their notes/books on how it works, destroy the machines that relay on the code to work and designed around it, ignore the fact that people make billions from code and that it is copy written and trademark standards in the industry.

Go steal a CD... tell them you will only pay for the plastic it was made out of because there is no proof there is any data on it... because it is invisible, and see how fast you get laughed at.

Forget the fact you can write it on paper, speaking of paper, ever hear of punch cards? Digital information is code, your infatuation for making it something mysterious is humorous.

I suppose if you take all that away, you would not have any proof for code or digital information.
Cisco Kid wrote:

That's nice, but your comparison failed on every level.

You have been attempting to prove something natural that we know exists and can PROVE its existence as validity for your god. You started with "air." Going as far as having faith that you have a brain.??

After losing ground there, you went onto something else that we also know exists and do another comparison.

Why?

Also, don't act like a victim, you have called me everything from delusional to insane.

A lot of things are invisible to us, at least when it comes to direct observations.
No one have seen the Higgs boson, it has hardly been detected and only as “a shadow at the wall” in the laboratory.
But its presence can be observed by everybody and all the time, it is represented by the “empty space” between all the objects in the sky and our surroundings.
I have so far not seen anything similar to that as a proof for the religious imaginations except for the activities performed by religious people.
