How are things in California numb n*tts? Hear it's a little hard to even collect on a tax return now days. That must be from all the smart moves the smart people make in California.

The God Delusion
Most people that promote Dawkins and start post with offensive titles such as you did are Dawkins worshipers whether they like to admit it or not. Now if you are intelligent enough to see that Mr. Dawkins is truly bent on an angry agenda then good for you.
I disagree that the title is offensive. Scientific studies have come to a general consensus that there is an inverse proportionality between degree of intelligence and degree of religiosity. I'm just asking, which came first: the chicken or the egg? Does stupidity make people religious, or does religious make people stupid? It's a legitimate question begged by empirical evidence gathered and analyzed by people all over the world.

And I'm not sure why you think advocating that people read a book about psychology is worship of its author. Do you worship the almost universally anonymous authors or the Bible?

You're saying the candidates for the Republican Party's nomination for the presidency in 2008 who raised their hands in defiance of evolution, whether to win the religious vote or because of personal convictions, are Canadians? Or, are you just stupid, too?

I am not smart enough to answer this. I will ask some of my Christian friends who are retired Professors for their opinion. But only if they can stop drooling long enough.

Obviously you have a reading comprehension problem (read dumb)so let me help you out. First one person implied all Christians are dumb. Then someone stated all Republicans are dumb. Then I posted all Canadians are dumb to show how ludicrous such statements are. If you still don't get it, ask an adult for an explanation.

If that was your real intent, than you to have a comprehensive problem. When you replied used the canadian comment, I was referring to republican presidential candidates, all but three. I never included all of one group.

You say without god we're a bunch of mindless chemicals walking around without any beliefs, that public schools are atheist breeding grounds.
Why is it impossible for a species (humans) to develop a conscience on it's own.. a sense of morality, code of ethics, judgment of right and wrong, and most of all "treat others the way you would want to be treated" (which should have been the first commandment in the first place). Our "souls" are shaped by family, friends, surroundings, emotions, and overall experiences that we came across through in our lifetime. And on the flip side religious parents screw up their child's programing at an early age, basically telling a weak minded child that if they think for themselves out side the box and don't believe in scripture and a invisible being, then they'll burn forever in hell...Nice going, then you might as well tell them if they don't believe in Santa then they'll have the flu everyday of their lives, or the Easter bunny will bit off their fingers.
On another note -public schools just put out the facts, not fairy tales...which is the reason why religion makes people stupid in the first place!

You may disagree with me and you have every right, but remember if there is no higher power no soul than all we are is chemicle reactions with no free will or power to think independintly from a predetermined path.
If that is the case, than the debate is worthless.
Do I have free will? To paraphrase a wise person: I have no choice! We are thrust into this world with no explanation. Humans have survived tens of thousands of years without Jesus, and were able to have worthwhile lives. We are just chemicals, otherwise, show me a part of you that isn't. We are aware, and this awareness has breed curiosity. We use debate to achieve some sort of dialectic, a way of refining knowledge and feeding our curiousity. I can think, so can a primate. Neither I, nor the primate requires a soul for this. I can't wait for all Heaven seekers to get their wish, the sooner the better.

David: "We are just chemicals,..."

No we're not. Bodies are just chemicals, awareness isn't. We exist in BEING. Our BEING in awareness is not chemical.

David: "We are thrust into this world with no explanation."

But David, that could only be true if we existed prior to being thrust!

Our awareness is nothing more than an electrochemical reaction. Indeed, we are nothing more than chemicals, and the emergent properties thereof.
