How do you keep on believing when you spend a lifetime disappointed?

When all is going wrong, and it has done for a lifetime, how do you keep on trusting, keep on believing?

This article suggests that there are a few lessons to be learnt from Zechariah and Elizabeth's story http://www.bible-reflections.net/bible-studie...

But what do you think? How do we keep going?

Evolution.

Those that can cope with our environment are more likely to be selected on.

Where does the bible guarantee a good life for a believer as opposed to a non-believer? Who makes choices on a good life or bad life? What is perspective on things?

Correct. Quite the opposite actually of promising what most of this world consider a "good life" as stated throughout the Bible. It is not about this life being so good for us in this world nearly as much as what we are promised that is yet to come. I believe those that reaped those rewards on earth will not be seeing heaven to reap the true rewards, as the material riches and wealth here are superficial.

John 16:

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Matt. 6:

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

If we live according to Christ we give to others anything that is beyond necessity for survival. You do not see the large churches or wealthy Christians doing that. They may give, but only enough that they may still life that surpasses simple comfort and survival.

Matt. 25:

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

I agree. It's about a value system. If you value money, then you are clueless about after life issues and the teachings of Christ. Live IN the world, not OF the world, means not grabbing on to own the most toys when you die...

Nothing but promises, and all without any substantial collateral.

Can you show us some real fulfillment of those promises?

"I've begun worshipping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate." - George Carlin, from "You Are All Diseased"

I keep on believing because I'm a blood bought, paid in full, Holy Spirit filled, sealed unto the day of redemption, saved child of God. The only thing that really matters, my soul, belongs to Christ Jesus.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

HS considering you lack a formal education I can understand why you have no idea what a Superior is. I worked with the VPs of the company I worked for so yes each them were my Superiors. Now run along because you ignorance is showing very clearly.
