Indeed, Jesus's teaching were copied like everything else in Christianity from older religions. Some of it is basic common sense which any thinking person should know anyway and the rest is manipulation tactics to cause people to hate themselves for being the carnal beings they are. Which in turn compels them to follow all sorts of crazy rules so they can be saved from carnality and turned into a spirit being someday. Of course the spirit-land,Heaven,is filled with mansions for all and golden streets with bejeweled gates. A more materialistic place could not be imagined and all for naught because spirits,if they existed, would not need any of those things.
Still, people buy into the bs and that's fine with me if all they kept their beliefs to themselves. However, for centuries they have used their beliefs to ruin and rule nations and as an excuse for genocide and war. IMO,they are dangerous, exp the fundies.
Well said. I completely agree.

This is it.
We are mere hours away from a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality.
Tomorrow, the Supreme Court is expected issue decisions in AFER’s case against California’s Proposition 8 and the ACLU’s challenge to the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Things are changing in Australia too.

"I think I am now the first prime minister in Australia who is a fully signed up supporter of marriage equality," he (PM Kevin Rudd) said yesterday.

Well, that's not an easy question to respond to. I'd consider myself as real as any other deity, if not moreso. I'm posting here, aren't I? Has your god ever done that?

Scotland's gay marriage bill published, with more freedoms for celebrants
The first in Britain to be unveiled, the Scottish equal marriage bill has been finally published after Westminster voted first for gay marriage, but equalities groups welcome its more liberal measures...

...Alex Neil, the Scottish health secretary, said:

A marriage is about love, not gender. And that is the guiding principle at the heart of this bill.

At the same time, we also want to protect freedom of speech and religion, and that's what the bill sets out to do. That is why it will be up to the religious body or individual celebrant to decide if they want to perform same sex marriages and there will be no obligation to opt in.

And, said Tom French, coordinator of the Equality Network, the Holyrood bill will protect married transgender people who want to stay in a pre gender change marriage from having to get a divorce, and then remarry their partner under the new legislation.

Exactly what I try to point out to these fundies here every day.
They hold no empathy, compassion, or love for their fellow man, just hatred because the "others" are not part of their evil cult.
I just cannot fathom how anyone who wishes and prays for the suffering and death of all life on the planet, can go around claiming they, and ONLY THEY, have the moral and spiritual "superiority" over everyone else, just because of their mythological beliefs.
To me, they are the sickest, most evil, people there are.
I couldn't agree more. It's one of those sacred cows that should be dealt with honestly by modern psychological research.

There's been a Yellow Warbler "fighting" with it's reflection on my window for about three weeks now. Every so often I can hear it pecking on the window. I think it's finally figuring out that it's not a real bird, as the attacks are getting less and less.
There's a sparrow that's been coming by just to mess with the cat. He perches on the porch railing just outside the window, and cheeps loudly til he gets the cat's attention. Once the cat's in the window watching, he starts jumping around and flitting about, appearing to take great delight in driving the cat crazy. When the little bird has had his fill of asserting and flaunting his alpha dominance, he flies away without ceremony, leaving the cat a basket case - fried, wild-eyed, frizzy-furred, and twitching!
Just goes to show the painful price for being intolerant.

My cat would be relieved if she only had to contend with a sparrow outside the window teasing here. She has to deal with Macaws running her out of the patio room. She hates it when I put them out there to play because she likes to sit out there too but they chase her out.
It is funny to see birds chase a cat. I am sure the song birds enjoying looking in and seeing that.
