What a...
You now speak for the Indians...Ooops, derogatory term. The Dakota people...?
You're sniping at a poster, why not petition Wikipedia? Google Sioux, Google Native American Indian Tribes. Look at all the Sioux..! Maps and charts and all over the place, the term Sioux. Sioux.
I ask again, are the Sioux petitioning anybody for a World Wide name change?
Get real.
I notice there's a helicopter behind you...? Military? Do a stint in the Sandbox? What did you and the guys call the locals...? Indians perhaps? Something derogatory in their eyes, I'm sure.

IMO, too many people are wasting their time and energy on trying to turn back the use of a universal term. Their efforts will never change the use, and its an extreme distraction from their real cultural, tribal problems. Maybe they should embrace the term and take the negativity that ONLY they see from the term. I guarantee you that no other peoples outside these insular enclaves of Sioux think its a derogatory term. Unless a person/s just doesn't like Native Americans in whole.

Never heard of "zipper head." "Gook" is from a different war. In Korean the word "Guk" or "gook" is a suffix denoting nationality. In Korean they refer to themselves as "Han Guk" Americans are "Mi Guk." Help me out here where did I claim to represent all of anything.

How many people of any given group have to object to a derogatory epithet before their objections are recognized? Your "guarantee" means less than diddly squat.

I know who and what I am, what I believe and there is nothing some anonymous pseudonymous poster on this forum can say that will affect me in any way.

Wow, Ive yet to meet a Viet vet who didnt know the term zipper head. I have heard several different definitions.

As for gook, youre partially right, but it was a term used for several different peoples.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gook

Huh, I looked up zipper-head...and apparently its been co-opted for a different meaning...go figure...but still has its roots in Korea and Vietnam. I recall hang'n at the old VFW with the old man and hearing these and worse during those days...

Also there was dink, duk/duck, sloat...all fresh in my memory, but not yours..?

It was me inferring from what you implied...re-read your posts, and get the tone. Its on the shoulders of the writer to understand their own tone-style and not expect the reader to infer what the writer truly means when they imply the opposite.

The point here is that while you informing us that Sioux is a derogatory term would be one thing, a bit of random knowledge that I would never turn away, love to learn new things - it was your tone that implied you were on a mini-crusade.

Get it?

Good, okay, dead horse now beaten enough.

I don't know, do you?

But its really not the objection that matters, its the users intent. A user knows when they're being derogatory and not, and that other poster was not defaming the Sioux, but I felt was somewhat proud of that heritage, as tiny as it was. But you chimed in and accused them of not being true to that heritage for not knowing that Sioux was deemed derogatory by the Sioux...so my interference was sort of easy to arrive at...

Two tours and I never heard "duck/duk,""Zip perhead." I did hear "Dink" which is short for "Dinky dao." Vietnamese for crazy. I heard "slope," NOT "sloat," when I was in flight school in '66. I think it referred to their eyes. But I never heard it after that. It might have fallen by the wayside because it would have been confusing. A "slope" is a terrain feature to aviators. Other terms I was familiar with. "VN" Vietnamese national. "Locals." Various profanties but not limited to the Vietnamese. They would in some cases refer to our own guys.

still bickering, are you sure that a whiteman, is not playing you. this forum is not for petty wars. about who wants to be called or not. this forum is for sharing GODS word. take your war to another forum. i guess you still like the whitemans customs, DISRESPECT. have all of you fogotten, the histories of our nations, the honor, integrity, respect. can't we live in peace with each other with RESPECT. what will it take, after we create enemies amongst ourselves, will it be too late. stop playing each other, to prove what. who's more powerfull, who is more prouder. remember when we stand together, that's when we are more braver, the most proudest, the most strongest. tell me,is this wrong.

I know what you said. 170 miles does not make that much differences. It certainly does not make 7000 miles difference. I have checked once again the coordinates I listed do not show anywhere near Oman. Therefore you must be a liar. Here they are again. These coordinates take you to a double runway airfield in the far east NOT the middle east.
