Anyone here ever dabbled in Scientology?

Me, I think that L Ron. Hubbard's "Dianetics" is full of great ideas, only wish that he would have left it at that instead of creating the wacky doctrine that underpins scientology.

Yes, I dabbled in Scientology. For 10 years of my life I worked in several different of their organizations full time.

While Hubbard had some good ideas, he was in my opinion, one of the greatest con artists of the last century. His Dianetics book is full of lies, claiming that Dianetics is a science based upon actual research, but no evidence of that exists. And the abilities promised by applying Dianetics as he details in the book are all BS. No one, not a single person has demonstrated those abilities in the 60 years since he wrote that book, including Hubbard himself.

My advice, if you're looking for great ideas, look elsewhere.

Oh I agree, he's undoubtedly one of the greatest cons of all time, however I do think that there's some benefit to the basic philosophy of scientology.

Especially if you live on a haunted volcano... It's just a tax dodge for Hollywood bastards that won't pay tax to the country that nurtured the pampered little wankers.

I agree with you, partially, however you can't judge all of it by the wacky alien-theology.

Incident II along with all of scientologies teaching is extremely nonsensical, but comparatively no less believable than another religion.

That southpark episode was a classic.

All I know of Scientology is the whacky spokespersons of it.

Tom Cruz and John Travolta seem to have their sanity and their lives are in ruins as far as family is concerned.

RE: Scientology
..... I think of Scientology just as I think of the many other belief systems that apparently were invented to make a lot of money for their founders and clergy. Have you been cleared yet?
..... Anyone can invent another belief system, but it takes a lot of talent to come up with one that gets a lot of money out of its members!

Lol, yeah I like that episode--the one about Joseph Smith and mormonism was also hilarious.

But yeah, some of their teachings aren't the fairy-tale type of stuff that one normally expects from "religion", alot of it is more of a self-help type of thing....but then it doe's get a little wacky, but there's some good in scientology no doubt.
